Ascension follows Greenwich Mean Time, abbreviated GMT, with a UTC offset of UTC+0. The island does not observe daylight saving time, so local civil time and UTC remain aligned in every season. No arithmetic is needed when converting between UTC and Ascension time: the hour and minute are the same. The time difference from another country may still change if that country moves into or out of a seasonal clock system.

“Saint Helena time” may be used informally for the wider territory’s common standard. Ascension and Saint Helena both follow GMT, despite being separate islands located far apart in the South Atlantic.

Georgetown uses GMT at UTC+0. Two Boats has no time difference from Georgetown. Travellers Hill follows the same island-wide clock. No internal journey requires a time-zone adjustment. Because Ascension has one civil zone, a local appointment can be transferred between settlements without conversion. For an overseas call or transport connection, compare GMT with the other place’s offset on the relevant date rather than relying on a remembered seasonal difference.

Sunrise on a South Atlantic island

The official clock remains fixed, while sunrise and sunset change as the seasons progress. Ascension lies in the tropics, so seasonal daylight variation is more restrained than in high-latitude regions, but the solar times are not constant.

Georgetown is a sensible reference for general island planning. Elevation and terrain can influence when direct sunlight becomes visible at Two Boats, Travellers Hill, or higher ground. A calculated sunrise normally assumes a standard unobstructed horizon and cannot account for every local ridge or cloud bank.

People often need twilight rather than sunrise itself. Dawn supplies increasing natural light before the Sun appears, and dusk preserves some light after sunset. Outdoor work, walking, photography, and marine activity may each call for a different solar marker.

Use a result for the correct date. Also keep sunrise and sunset values tied to the same locality when calculating daylight duration; combining Georgetown’s sunrise with another location’s sunset creates a misleading interval.
