Anyone coordinating transport, research or communications should specify “Phoenix Islands” or “Kanton,” not simply “Kiribati.” That extra label prevents the event from being interpreted under another national time zone.

Sunrise on remote ocean islands

For domestic comparisons, South Tarawa is one hour behind Kanton, while Kiritimati is one hour ahead. Those differences remain constant because none of the three groups uses seasonal clock changes.
