Nord-Est, Haiti
Nord-Est keeps Haiti’s national time: UTC−5 during standard time and UTC−4 during daylight time. Fort-Liberté, Ouanaminthe, and neighboring communes share the clock, but each location has its own dated sunrise.

Current time in Nord-Est, Haiti
There is only one civil time zone in Haiti. Consequently, crossing from another Haitian department into Nord-Est does not require resetting a watch. The relevant seasonal change is made nationwide rather than by individual departments or municipalities.
Fort-Liberté serves as the departmental capital and a convenient clock reference. Ouanaminthe is another useful reference, particularly for activity near the border with the Dominican Republic. The neighboring country’s time rules are not necessarily the same, so a border crossing can require a clock check.
A short journey across a border can change the clock more dramatically than a much longer journey inside Nord-Est.
Communes and local-time searches
Nord-Est stretches from the coast toward the international boundary and contains several distinct communes. The following names are useful when choosing a weather forecast, solar calculator, or map entry:
Fort-Liberté, the departmental capital Ouanaminthe Trou-du-Nord Terrier-Rouge Caracol Vallières Mont-Organisé This is a navigation list, not a claim that the places appear in exact population order. “Largest city” can be ambiguous when datasets use different boundaries. Fort-Liberté is the administrative reference, while Ouanaminthe is often the more practical choice for border-related scheduling.
When entering a place into an international clock service, include “Haiti.” Nord-Est can otherwise be confused with a compass direction or with a similarly named administrative area.
Sunrise near the eastern border
Eastern location influences solar timing, but the official clock remains national. Sunrise in Ouanaminthe or Fort-Liberté may be slightly different from sunrise farther west in Haiti. The exact result changes every day and should be calculated for the coordinates or selected town.
Daylight time affects the label printed beside the event. When Haiti advances its clocks, sunrise is shown later according to civil time. When standard time resumes, the clock reading moves earlier. This is a change in timekeeping, not an abrupt change in the sun.
Terrain introduces a practical distinction between calculated and visible sunrise. A published value normally assumes a standard horizon and atmospheric model. Ridges, clouds, trees, or buildings can delay the moment at which an observer actually sees direct sunlight.
For a meeting, use current civil time. For farming, walking, or photography, consult sunrise, twilight, and weather together. Keeping those purposes separate prevents a technically correct time from becoming an impractical plan.
Questions and answers
- Does Nord-Est observe a different clock because it borders another country?
- No. It follows Haiti’s national time. The clock may differ after crossing into the Dominican Republic.
- Is Fort-Liberté the only valid city for checking the time?
- No. Every commune in Nord-Est has the same official local time.
- Can a general Haiti sunrise value be used for Nord-Est?
- It is only an approximation. Choose a Nord-Est commune and the required date for a more relevant result.
