Orthodox churches that follow the older computus often land on a later Sunday. In 2026 the two Easters are one week apart. In 2025 they fell on the same Sunday, April 20. In 2027 they are far apart. If a household keeps both calendars, this year they are not celebrating on one shared morning.

Find the first full moon on or after March 21. Take the Sunday after that moon, not the Sunday of the moon if they coincide. That Sunday is Western Easter for the year. You do not need to perform the arithmetic by hand. You do need to know that the answer for this year is a Sunday in spring, and that copying April 20 from 2025 would be wrong.

Easter will not sit still on the calendar because spring is not a numbered box; it is a season the moon still helps mark.

This year, next year, and the stretch of spring

April 5, 2026 is early April, well after the March equinox in the north. Holy Week this year therefore sits in the part of spring when daylight is already lengthening fast in those latitudes. March 28, 2027 will sit even closer to the equinox. The feast can feel like late winter in a cold spring or like full planting weather in a warm one; the rule does not wait for the garden.

Other spring dates this year do not move with the moon. Earth Day remains April 22. Western Easter this year is more than two weeks before that. If you are lining up travel, school breaks, or a family meal, use April 5 (Western) or April 12 (Orthodox) for 2026, not a memory of “around mid-April.”
