The wording “bring” and the wording “take” are search variants for one guest Thursday. Employers print Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, Take Your Child to Work Day, or the older daughters-only title. None of those titles is a second legal holiday. The date rule is the fourth Thursday in April: 23 April in 2026, 22 April in 2027, 27 April in 2028.

Late spring is the point. Meteorological spring still has May after this Thursday. Astronomical spring has been running since the March equinox. The visit is timed while classrooms are still meeting, so a child can leave a workplace and still have a school Friday in the same week. That is a season-of-the-year choice and a season-of-the-term choice at once. It is not a summer internship and not a winter break activity.

A local “bring your son” flyer that names a different weekday is a local flyer. It does not rewrite the national April Thursday, and the national April Thursday does not rewrite the flyer. Put the host on the planner line. “Bring Your Son — fourth Thursday April, if our site allows it” is a date. “Bring your son” under a magnet is a rumour.

Late spring, still a school season

Summer in the meteorological sense begins 1 June. The visiting Thursday is still more than a month before that start. Treating it as a summer outing is how families pack as if school has ended and then discover attendance rules still apply. The school’s yes, if any, is an excused absence or a field-trip code for that Thursday, not a seasonal holiday. The workplace’s yes is a safety and insurance decision for that Thursday, not a picnic because the weather turned mild.

May remaining after the Thursday is ordinary spring: tests, concerts, and the last stretch of the term. Do not borrow those May weekdays as backup visiting days unless the employer named them. A rain-out does not automatically move a child onto the next Thursday. There is no rain date printed on the civil calendar for this program.

Use the fourth Thursday in April as the default U.S. mark. Ask the workplace before the child travels; the season does not grant entry. Ask the school about attendance that Thursday; spring term is still in force.

Keep Friday of that week as a school day unless the school said otherwise. Remote work does not invent a different season. A parent who works from home still needs a household rule and, if the employer runs a formal day, that employer’s date. A child on a video call in April is still in spring term. A child on a video call in July is in a different season and a different school status. Do not copy the April Thursday into July because the home office felt convenient.

A lanyard in April is a spring exception. Summer will not inherit it unless someone books summer on purpose.
