The question “what day is Easter” is usually asking two things at once: the weekday and the date. The weekday is Sunday. Western Easter is defined as a Sunday, so “what day is Easter on” in the weekday sense has a stable answer. The date moves from year to year because the feast is computed from the ecclesiastical full moon after the spring equinox, not from a fixed month-and-day like 25 December.

That movable rule is why a planner cannot print a single Easter box that works for every year. You look up the year you care about, then place Sunday on that date. Good Friday is the Friday before that Sunday. Easter Monday is the Monday after it. Those two follow the Sunday; they are not computed separately.

Eastern churches that follow the Julian computus often celebrate on a later Gregorian date, and in some years the dates coincide. If you need the date for a parish, ask which calendar that parish uses. The rest of this page uses the Western, Gregorian date common in civil calendars in the United States and much of Europe.

When is Easter in 2027

When is Easter 2027, and when is Easter in 2027, are the same request. Western Easter Sunday in 2027 is 28 March 2027. That date is a Sunday. Holy Week then sits in late March, with Good Friday on 26 March 2027 and Easter Monday on 29 March 2027.

For the surrounding years, Western Easter Sunday is 5 April 2026 and 16 April 2028. 2026 is therefore an April Easter; 2027 is a March Easter. If you copied last year’s date into a 2027 file, you would land on 5 April, which in 2027 is a Monday, not Easter Day.

Western Easter 2026: Sunday 5 April. Western Easter 2027: Sunday 28 March. Western Easter 2028: Sunday 16 April. Weekday every year: Sunday. Schools, payroll, and travel around 2027 should treat the last week of March as the Easter week in Western calendars, not the middle of April. A countdown to 28 March 2027 is a countdown to that Sunday, not to a weekday that still has to be chosen. Easter is always a Sunday, so “what day is Easter” is really “which Sunday in spring.”

How many days until Easter

How many days till Easter depends on the date you start from and which Easter you mean. From Thursday 3 September 2026 to Sunday 28 March 2027 is 206 days. From a later start the remaining count shrinks by one each calendar date. After 28 March 2027 the next Western Easter is 16 April 2028.

A remaining-day count is a date difference, not a weekday puzzle. Use the Easter Sunday date as the end, exclude or include the start by the same rule you use for any other deadline, and do not subtract “until Sunday” as if the date were still unknown. For 2027 the Sunday is already known: 28 March.

Choose the year and the church calendar you need. Take Easter Sunday as the target date. Count calendar days from your start date to that Sunday. If you needed Good Friday or Easter Monday, shift two days back or one day forward from that Sunday.

If you are writing “days till Easter” on a sign in early 2027, recount after each midnight. The 2027 date does not move once the year is fixed; the remaining number does.
