The question is the week number of “today,” or of a date you type. It is not a mood and not a quarter. A week number calculator answers with an integer from 1 to 52, or 53 in a long week-numbering year. If two apps disagree, they are probably using different rules for where week 1 starts, not different planets.

ISO 8601 is the rule most international tools mean. The week starts on Monday. Week 1 is the week with the year’s first Thursday. That is the same as saying week 1 contains 4 January. Early January days can still belong to week 52 or 53 of the previous week-numbering year. Late December days can belong to week 1 of the next. The Thursday of the week decides the year label of that week.

A system that instead says “the week containing 1 January is week 1,” and that starts weeks on Sunday, will print a different number in the first days of January and sometimes in late December. That system is a week calculator. It is not an ISO week number calculator. If a school, a payroll, or a shipping firm says “week 12,” ask which rule they print on the wall. The integer is useless without the rule.

Pick the date you care about, in a named time zone if the hour sits near midnight. Decide ISO (Monday start, week 1 contains 4 January) or another posted rule. Read the week number those rules assign.

If you also need the week-numbering year, read that too; it can differ from the civil year beside New Year. 2026 is a worked check for the ISO rule. 1 January 2026 is a Thursday, so that Thursday sits in ISO week 1, and the week runs from Monday 29 December 2025 through Sunday 4 January 2026. A Sunday-start calendar that calls the week of 1 January “week 1” will not match that Monday-start box. Use the check when a tool’s “current week” looks a week off in the first days of January.

An ISO week number calculator should also tell you the weekday number: Monday is 1, Sunday is 7. The full ISO week date is year, week, day: for example a Thursday in week 1 of week-year 2026. Between 4 January and 28 December, the ISO week-year number matches the Gregorian year. Thursdays always match. The mismatches live in the New Year seam.

Most ISO years have 52 weeks. An ISO year has 53 weeks when 1 January is a Thursday, and when a leap year has 1 January on Wednesday. 2026 has 1 January on Thursday, so the ISO week-numbering year 2026 has 53 weeks. ISO week 53 of 2026 runs from Monday 28 December 2026 through Sunday 3 January 2027. That last week is not fully inside the civil year 2026. If you needed only civil weeks inside 1 January–31 December, you are no longer asking the ISO question. Week 1 is a rule, not a feeling that January has begun.

Weeks to calculator

“Weeks to calculator” is the inverse job: how many weeks from date A to date B. Divide the day span by 7. State the remainder in days. Ten days is one week and three days, not “about two weeks.” If you round up every leftover day into an extra week, you will plan a week that does not exist. For a remaining-week count inside one year, you can also subtract week numbers, but only after both dates use the same numbering rule and you have handled a year boundary.

Do not convert months into weeks by multiplying by four and calling it done. February is not four weeks and a polite extra. A month is a month. A week is seven days. The weeks-to calculator should take dates, not month names, unless you are willing to name the first and last civil days.
