10 year anniversary
A 10 year anniversary is the same month and day ten civil years after the original date. If that day does not exist in the later year, pick 28 February or 1 March and say which.
How it works
Keep the month and the day, add ten to the year. 15 March 2016 becomes 15 March 2026. The weekday will usually be different. The anniversary is the date, not the original weekday. A party planned as “the second Saturday of March” ten years later is a different rule and will miss 15 March in many years.
Ten calendar years are ten trips around the civil year, not a pile of 52-week blocks. Each common year contributes 365 days. Each leap day that falls inside the span contributes one extra day. The number of leap days in a given ten-year span is 2 or 3, depending on which Februaries you cross. Do not publish a single day-count for “all ten-year anniversaries.” Count the leap days in that span, then add them to 10 × 365.
In months the figure is clean: ten years are 120 named months. In weeks it is not clean. 3650 days is 521 weeks and 3 days, and then the leap days in the span still have to be added. If you need weeks, count days first. If you only need the date for a reminder, you do not need weeks at all. Set a recurring calendar event on the month and day, with a note for 29 February if that is the original day.
Same month, same day, year plus ten: the default. Original weekday: do not reuse it as the anniversary rule. Leap-day originals: the later year may have no 29 February. Time of day: optional; the date does not require the original hour unless you want it.
The hour is a courtesy, not a definition. A ceremony at 15:00 on the original day can be remembered at 15:00 ten years later. A form that asks only for a date is satisfied without the hour. Do not fail an anniversary because nobody wrote down the minute.
Ten years, weekdays, and the leftover days
Each common year shifts weekdays forward by one, because 365 = 52 × 7 + 1. A leap day in the span shifts them one more for dates after that 29 February. Over ten years the weekday therefore moves by ten leftover days plus the leap days you actually crossed, then that total is reduced modulo 7. You can compute it if you like. You do not need it to mark the date. You need it only if you are booking a room that sells weekdays instead of dates.
A decade as a word is ten years. A 10 year anniversary is a date, not a decade label on a shelf. “The 2010s” is a decade-shaped bin. It will not ring on 15 March. If you want a reminder that survives phone migrations, write the original date and the plus-ten date in the same note so the later you can see both. Ten candles count years. They do not count the leap days you walked through.
When 29 February is the original day
If the original date is 29 February, ten years later may not be a leap year. 2016 had 29 February; 2026 does not. Civil practice then splits: some people mark 28 February, some mark 1 March. Neither choice is a second calendar. It is a policy for a missing day. Write the policy next to the reminder. A repeating “every 29 February” rule will simply skip a non-leap year, which is another policy, and a quiet one. Silent skip is how anniversaries vanish.
For ages and legal spans, “ten years later” can mean the first moment the tenth year has completed, which still lands on the anniversary date in ordinary months. Do not mix that with “in the tenth year,” which begins after nine years. Language here is cheap to get wrong. If a form asks for a tenth anniversary date, give the date. If it asks how many years have passed, give the completed years as of that date.
Questions and answers
- How do I get the date of a 10 year anniversary?
- Add ten to the year and keep the month and day. If that day does not exist, choose 28 February or 1 March and record the choice.
- Is a 10 year anniversary always 3,650 days later?
- No. Start from 10 × 365, then add the leap days that fall inside that particular span.
- Does the weekday stay the same?
- Usually not. The date stays. The weekday moves with leftover days and leap days.

10,000 days is a little more than 27 years: 27 × 365 = 9,855 days, so 145 days remain if you ignore leap days.
107 days
107 days is a span of 107 midnights on the civil calendar: 15 weeks and 2 days. From Thursday 3 September 2026 that span ends on Saturday 19 December 2026.
14 days with you
Fourteen days is two weeks. Every month has at least 28 days, so the riddle “how many months have 28 days” is twelve, not one.
