A U.S. federal holiday is one of the named civil days when federal offices close: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. Thursday 3 September 2026 is not on that list. Labor Day 2026 is Monday 7 September. Christmas Day 2026 is Friday 25 December. “Today is a good day” does not add a twelfth federal close.

Unofficial “national” food and greeting days are a different pile. They are marketing calendars and greeting-card lists, not statutes. They do not close banks. They do not move Labor Day. Father’s Day in the United States is the third Sunday in June. It is widely kept and is not a federal holiday. If you asked “is today Father’s Day” on 3 September, the answer is no. If you asked which special day is today, name the list you are using or you will get a slogan instead of a date.

A Good Day to Die Hard is a title

A Good Day to Die Hard, and the doubled search “a good day day to die hard,” is the 2013 film, the fifth Die Hard picture. John Moore directed. Bruce Willis plays John McClane; Jai Courtney plays his son Jack. The U.S. theatrical opening is 14 February 2013. The story is set in Russia, not at a Christmas party. The first Die Hard film, from 1988, is the one people argue about as a Christmas movie because it is set at a holiday office party. The fifth film does not inherit that setting. Valentine’s Day 2013 was a release date, not a feast inside the plot.

Watching the sequel on a Thursday in September does not make Thursday a national Die Hard day. Premiere dates do not repeat as civic holidays. If you wanted the Christmas argument, you wanted the 1988 film and 25 December as atmosphere, not as this sequel’s calendar.

The calendar will admit it is Thursday. It will not grade the Thursday. A sequel titled for a good day still has to share the date with everyone else’s laundry.

Good old days are not on the holiday list

The good old days are a blur of past dates. They have no federal number and no unofficial sandwich. You cannot set a reminder for them. You can set a reminder for this evening, which remains 3 September 2026 until midnight in your zone. Nostalgia wants a range. “What national day is it today” wants a point. A good day as a plan is still hours until midnight, plus whatever feast, if any, actually sits on the square.

Near the date line, “today” is already tomorrow for someone else. The federal list is still attached to local civil dates in the United States, not to a global mood. If your clock has crossed midnight, the national-day question has to be asked again for the new date. The film title will not follow you across that midnight.
