when was easter this year

Western Easter this year was Sunday 5 April 2026. That date is already behind a reader on 3 September 2026. The feast is movable: it is the Sunday after the ecclesiastical full moon on or after 21 March, not a fixed 5 April. Next Western Easter, in 2027, is Sunday 28 March. Orthodox Pascha this year was Sunday 12 April 2026. In 2027 it is Sunday 2 May. If a relative still says “when is Easter this year” in September, the honest answer is that it has been. Point them at next spring, or at the Orthodox date if that is the church they mean.

Good Friday 2026 was 3 April. Easter Monday, where it is observed, was 6 April. Those weekdays belong to the same movable cluster. They are not Teachers’ Day, not a school thank-you, and not a second Christmas. A planner who still has Easter in the future in autumn 2026 has the wrong year open.

This year’s other named days keep their own rules. Christmas Day is always 25 December; in 2026 that is a Friday. Christmas Eve is 24 December, a Thursday. Those have not arrived yet on 3 September. Easter has. Do not reuse the April Sunday as a template for December. One moved. One did not.

This year on two clocks in China

What year is this in China depends which clock the form wants. Civil paperwork, trains, schools, and IDs use the Gregorian year: 2026, since 1 January. The traditional animal year after Spring Festival is the Horse, from Tuesday 17 February 2026 until the next lunar new year. That next new year is Saturday 6 February 2027, the Goat (Sheep) year. A birthday in January 2026 is 2026 on a form and still Snake on the animal cycle, because the Horse had not started. On 3 September 2026 both clocks already say 2026 and Horse.

1 January is the civil new year in midwinter. Spring Festival is the seasonal turn in late winter. They are not the same morning. National Day on 1 October is another civil marker in this year; it does not roll the numbered year and does not change the Horse label. Write 2026 on tickets. Say Horse only when someone asked for the animal year.

This Gregorian year: 2026. Western Easter 2026: Sunday 5 April (already past in September). Orthodox Pascha 2026: Sunday 12 April (already past in September). U.S. Thanksgiving Day 2026: Thursday 26 November.

Christmas Day 2026: Friday 25 December. China civil year: 2026; animal year: Horse, from 17 February 2026.

This year Thanksgiving Day

This year Thanksgiving Day, in the United States, is Thursday 26 November 2026, the fourth Thursday in November. From 3 September 2026 that Thursday is 84 days away. It is a federal holiday. The meal is a household fact. The parade in New York, if you mean Macy’s, is a morning on that Thursday, not a season. Canada’s Thanksgiving is the second Monday in October, which in 2026 is 12 October — a different country and a different rule. Do not carry the U.S. Thursday north, and do not carry the Canadian Monday south.

Shops, schools, and kitchens set their own hours around the U.S. Thursday. The Wednesday before, 25 November 2026, is a frequent school half-day by local custom, not by federal law. The Friday after is a shopping day for some and an extra closed day for others. Ask the workplace or the district you actually use. A national holiday page cannot staff a till.

This year already used Easter. It has not yet used Thanksgiving. Both still belong to 2026. If someone asks “this year’s” without naming the feast, ask which. The possessive is empty until it has a noun: this year’s Easter, this year’s Thanksgiving, this year’s animal year, this year’s Christmas. 2026 will hold all of them. They do not share a weekday rule.
