The longest day of the year is the summer solstice in your hemisphere. North of the equator that is the June solstice. South of the equator it is the December solstice. That northern longest day is already past if you are reading this in September. The next northern longest day is the June solstice in 2027, which falls on 21 June. The Longest Day (film): 1962, about 6 June 1944, not a solstice rite. Day length is local. A solstice in June does not give every northern town the same number of hours. High latitudes get a very long light; near the equator the swing is small. This page will not invent a minute count for your city. Look up sunrise and sunset for that date and that place if you need a span. The solstice is the peak of the swing, not a promise of heat. Northern July is often hotter than 21 June because ground and water lag.

Easter is a Sunday the moon helps you find. The longest day is a tilt. A 1962 film about one June morning is neither.

A film title is not a feast

The Longest Day as a title is easy to type when you meant the solstice. The film is about the Allied landings in Normandy on 6 June 1944. The book came first, in 1959.
