Texas day brazil
Texas Day Brazil is not a Brazilian public holiday. Searches mix Texas Independence Day, unofficial National Texas Day, Brazilian independence, and themed events in Brazil.
How it works
Brazil’s holiday calendar is written in Portuguese law at three levels: federal, state, and municipal. No federal feriado is called Texas Day. If a venue in Curitiba or another city advertises a “Texas Day” of barbecue and country music, that is a ticketed or free event, not a nationwide closing. Shops in São Paulo do not shut because a Texas calendar app lit up.
The English query “Texas day brazil” therefore needs a split. One side is Texas, the U.S. state, and the days Texans actually mark. The other side is Brazil, and the days Brazilians actually mark. A third side is commerce: the restaurant chain Texas de Brazil, a churrascaria founded in Addison, Texas, in 1998, which is a menu, not a feast day. Do not file a steakhouse opening date as a civic holiday.
If you are asking whether 7 September is Texas Day, the answer is no. 7 September is Brazil’s Independence Day, Dia da Independência, a federal holiday for the 1822 Grito do Ipiranga. If you are asking whether 2 March is a Brazilian holiday, the answer is no. 2 March is Texas Independence Day in Texas. The two independence dates are not interchangeable, even though both are “independence” in English.
Texas dates that are not Brazilian
Texas Independence Day is 2 March, the 1836 Texas Declaration of Independence from Mexico. In Texas it is a partial-staffing state observance: state offices may run with fewer people. It is not a U.S. federal holiday. Schools and private firms decide for themselves. Father of Texas Day is 3 November in Texas statute, in memory of Stephen F. Austin. That is a Texas civic date, not a Brazilian one.
Unofficial list sites also print National Texas Day on 1 February. National Day Calendar dates that sticker to 2017. It is not a closing in Austin and it is not a closing in Brasília. Confederate Heroes’ Day, Lyndon Baines Johnson Day, and other Texas recognitions stay on the Texas list. None of them is a feriado nacional in Brazil. A Brazilian worker does not get 2 March off because Texas does, any more than a Texan gets Carnival Monday off because São Paulo does.
Brazil, 7 September: Independence Day, federal holiday. Texas, 2 March: Texas Independence Day, state observance, not a U.S. federal closing. Texas, 3 November: Father of Texas Day in Texas law. 1 February: unofficial National Texas Day on promotional U.S. lists, not a Brazilian holiday.
Texas de Brazil: a restaurant name from 1998, not a calendar feast. Texas Day in Brazil is a costume until a legislature writes it down. Brazil already wrote 7 September.
Brazil dates that are not Texan
Federal Brazilian holidays that English speakers mix with “Texas day” searches include 1 January, Good Friday, 21 April Tiradentes, 1 May Labour Day, 7 September, 12 October Our Lady Aparecida, 2 November All Souls, 15 November Proclamation of the Republic, 20 November Black Awareness Day, and 25 December. Carnival is widely taken as a facultative holiday, not the same legal object as 7 September. Election Sundays are also national holidays under the Constitution. None of those is Texas Independence Day.
States and cities add their own. Paraná keeps 19 December as the state emancipation date. Municipal patron-saint days close local offices and leave the next town open. If you need to know whether a bank in Brazil is closed, name the city and the year. “Texas day” will not tell you. If you need to know whether a bank in Dallas is closed, do not use the Brazilian list.
People planning travel between Texas and Brazil should hold two calendars. A March trip to Austin may meet Texas Independence events and ordinary Brazilian working days. A September trip to Brazil meets a real national holiday and an ordinary Tuesday or Monday in Texas, depending on the weekday of the 7th. The query is a collision of names. Pull them apart before you book a day off.
