How it works

The phrase names observances that already have their own titles. It does not name a single United Nations day that shuts airports. If you needed time off from a technology job, that is a leave question and belongs on a workplace calendar. This page is the civic dates: days governments, schools, and engineering bodies already use to talk about tools, networks, and science class.

Those dates do not move as a set. Each one has its own rule. A school assembly on one of them does not close a bank. A bank holiday in another country does not create a technology holiday in yours. Read the row you actually need.

11 May in India, 17 May on the ITU calendar

India observes National Technology Day on 11 May. The date marks 11 May 1998, when India conducted the Pokhran-II nuclear tests. The observance began in 1999. Scientific institutions hold events and awards. It is a commemorative date on the Indian civic calendar. It is not the same class of nationwide closing as Republic Day or Independence Day. In 2026, 11 May was a Monday and has already passed. In 2027, 11 May is a Tuesday.

The International Telecommunication Union marks World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on 17 May, the anniversary of the International Telegraph Union’s founding in 1865. In 2026 that date was a Sunday. In 2027 it is a Monday. The day is a UN-system observance for communications policy and access, not a U.S. federal holiday and not India’s 11 May under another name. Do not merge the two Mays. One is an Indian national commemoration. The other is an ITU date.

India, National Technology Day: 11 May every year. ITU, World Telecommunication and Information Society Day: 17 May every year. Next 11 May from 3 September 2026: Tuesday 11 May 2027. United States federal list: neither date appears as a closing.

School squares that are not closings

U.S. classroom calendars widely list 8 November as National STEM Day or National STEAM Day, an unofficial school-facing date for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, sometimes with art added in the acronym. In 2026 that date is Sunday 8 November. In 2027 it is Monday 8 November. A Sunday lesson plan does not move the label to Friday. A Monday lesson plan does not close the district.

Computer Science Education Week in the United States is a separate December campaign around Ada Lovelace’s field and around classroom coding hours. It is a week, not a public holiday. Ada Lovelace Day, unofficially the second Tuesday in October in many English-speaking lists, is another themed square for women in computing and science. In 2026 that Tuesday is 13 October. None of these rewrite 11 May in India or 17 May on the ITU list.

A day that celebrates a network is still a school date until a labour law says the doors close. Posters are not locks.
