How it works

SOF here is Special Operations Forces. SOF Week is an event jointly associated with U.S. Special Operations Command and the Global SOF Foundation. The usual home is the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Florida. The 2026 dates were Monday 18 May through Thursday 21 May. Friday 22 May was not part of that published span. Saturday and Sunday around it were ordinary weekend dates unless a side meeting said otherwise.

A named week on a calendar is still built of weekdays. You do not get a new kind of day called SOF. You get Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with a badge on them. Exhibits, briefings, and registration follow those four names. If a session is listed for Tuesday, it is not “sometime during SOF Week.” It is Tuesday.

The next SOF Week is whichever span the organizers publish. Copying 18–21 May onto another year is a guess. The weekday pattern will also move: a Monday-to-Thursday block slides when the calendar slides. Wait for the printed dates, then read their weekdays, then pack.

People also type sof week when they mean start of week, sometimes written SoW in schedules and code. That is a different object: the first weekday of whatever week rule you are using. Keep the event and the abbreviation apart. One is a Tampa week. The other is a rule about Monday or Sunday.

Four weekdays in a row

Monday through Thursday is a workweek fragment. It is not a weekend overlay. Banks in Tampa stay on ordinary May hours unless a separate holiday says not to. 18 May 2026 was not a U.S. federal holiday. Memorial Day 2026 is Monday 25 May, the following week. Do not treat SOF Week as a public closing. Treat it as four busy weekdays in one city for the people who are there.

2026 SOF Week: Monday 18 May through Thursday 21 May. Place: Tampa, with the convention center as the usual venue. Friday in that week: not in the 2026 published span. Memorial Day: Monday 25 May 2026, a different week.

Travel sits on the weekdays beside the event. A Sunday arrival is a weekend arrival. A Friday departure is a weekday departure after the published close. Those shoulder days are not SOF Week. They are the ordinary names around it. Book them as Sunday and Friday, not as “the week.”

Start of week, if that is what you meant

Start of week is a setting. ISO 8601 starts the week on Monday. Many U.S. wall calendars start it on Sunday. A payroll workweek can start on any day the employer named, including Wednesday. SoW is the first date of that chosen cycle. It is not SOF Week, and it is not a Tampa flight.

If two people argue about “what week this is,” they often disagree about the start, not about Thursday. Thursday is Thursday under both rules. The week number can differ. Settle the weekday of the date first. Argue about week 21 later.

SOF Week is four named weekdays in Tampa. Start of week is whichever weekday you declared first. Mixing the two is how a badge week becomes a Sunday argument. A week, event or not, still contains seven names if you look at the wall. SOF Week 2026 used four of them on purpose. The other three that week — Friday, Saturday, Sunday — did not stop existing. They simply were not the published show.
