Quote of the day

A quote of the day is one line chosen for that calendar date. It is not a holiday, and it does not move a workday. The date picks the line; the line does not pick the date.

when is take your son to work day

People who type “take your son to work day” usually mean the US workplace guest day held on the fourth Thursday in April. The program began as Take Our Daughters to Work Day and later included sons; many offices now say Take Your Child to Work Day. It is not a federal holiday and not a school holiday by default. In 2026 that Thursday is 23 April; in 2027 it is 22 April.

The day is a Thursday on purpose, so a child can return to school on Friday with something to tell. Employers set their own rules: ages, how many children, which floors are off limits. If your workplace does not join, there is no national closing to lean on. Put the Thursday on a family calendar the same way you put a recital: as an appointment, not as a red-letter public holiday.

A daily quote page and this April Thursday meet only as calendar objects. The quote does not change because a child is in the office. The office day does not move because a site published a line about work. Both are pinned to dates; one is a rotating sentence, the other is a fourth-Thursday rule.

Quote for the day, including workdays

Quote for the day and quote of the day today are the same request: show the line that belongs to this morning’s date. Tomorrow the page should change. If it does not change, you are reading an archive or a stuck file. A good daily line is short enough to finish before the kettle boils and specific enough that it does not fit every poster on a bus.

Quote of the day for work needs a narrower filter. A line that is fine on a personal calendar may be wrong on a shared screen: jokes about laziness, quotes with a private insult, or a sentence you cannot source. If you cannot name the speaker, do not dress the words up with a famous name. An unsourced proverb can still be useful if you present it as a proverb, not as a president.

Work quotes earn their keep when they are about the day’s actual task: start, pause, finish, leave on time. A calendar page that also lists the fourth Thursday in April can remind a team that children may be on site that morning. That is a scheduling note, not a motto.

Daily quote: one dated line, replaced at midnight in the page’s chosen zone. Work quote: the same idea, with a tone that can hang in a break room. April workplace Thursday: fourth Thursday of April; 23 April 2026 and 22 April 2027. Federal status of that Thursday: ordinary workday unless your employer says otherwise.

How a dated line should behave

Pick a time zone for the rollover. A quote of the day today in Tokyo should not wait for midnight in New York. State the zone if the audience is mixed. Archive yesterday’s line so a reader who arrives at 00:10 is not lost. Do not pretend a random refresh is “the” quote of the date if you redraw it on every page load; a date deserves a stable sentence.

If you publish quotes, keep a list longer than a year so January does not repeat last January unless you want a tradition. Repeating on purpose is a calendar choice. Repeating because the list was short is a stuck tool.

A quote of the day is a calendar, not an oracle. If the line still fits next Tuesday, it was a slogan; if it only fits this morning, you chose well.

Questions and answers

Is Take Your Son to Work Day a separate date from the daughters’ day?
In ordinary US use it is the same fourth Thursday in April, under a name that now includes sons and daughters or “child.” Check your employer’s wording for that year.
When does “today’s” quote change?
At midnight in the zone the page uses. If the page does not name a zone, ask, because your Thursday evening may still be Thursday afternoon elsewhere.
Can I use any quote on an office screen?
Only if you may display it and you have the attribution right. A work screen is a publication. Skip lines you cannot assign, and skip insults dressed as wisdom.
