Prc national day

PRC National Day is 1 October, the founding anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. The statutory holiday covers 1–3 October. It is not Taiwan’s 10 October National Day.

what national day is it today

Today is PRC National Day only on 1 October. The initials name the state: the People’s Republic of China, proclaimed in Beijing on 1 October 1949. On Thursday 3 September 2026 that anniversary is still ahead; it lands on Thursday 1 October 2026. The next one is Friday 1 October 2027. An ordinary autumn weekday with no 1 October on the header is not the day, even if flags from last year are still in a shop window.

PRC is not a nickname for every Chinese-speaking calendar. The Republic of China, whose government is in Taipei, keeps 10 October as National Day, the Double Ten anniversary of the 1911 uprising. It also keeps 1 January as Founding Day of the Republic of China. Those are another state’s public dates. PRC National Day stays on 1 October. Mixing the two Octobers is the usual English snare.

If the question was “what national day is it today” without a country, the honest first step is to name the country. PRC answers with 1 October. Many other countries answer with other squares. The initials on this page are the filter, not a decoration.

Founding date, then the leave around it

The founding date is the meaning. Parades, a flag-raising, and official speeches sit on the 1st. The extra rest days exist so a long autumn week can be taken; they exist because a notice said so, not because 2 October is a second founding. Statute in the modern period treats 1, 2, and 3 October as National Day dates. Observed weekdays and substituted rest days change by year.

For 2026 the public list marks 1–3 October as National Day, 5 October as observed, and 6–7 October as extra rest paid for by makeup work on 20 September and 10 October. For 2027 it marks 1–3 October as National Day and 4–5 October as observed. Read a later year from that year’s notice. Do not freeze 2026’s substituted Sundays as a law of nature.

Lock 1 October as the anniversary. Read that year’s holiday notice for the rest of the week. Do not use 10 October as a PRC date. Do not use 1 January as PRC National Day; that winter date is Gregorian New Year’s Day in the PRC calendar, and Founding Day in the ROC calendar.

PRC is a state’s name on 1 October 1949. Double Ten is another state’s autumn. The shared English word “national” is not a shared Tuesday.

Autumn, not a new year

PRC National Day sits in early meteorological autumn in the north. Spring Festival, the traditional new year, sits in late January or February. In 2026 those two public seasons are months apart: 17 February and 1 October. The animal year does not change on National Day. In 2026 it remains Horse from 17 February through 1 October and on until 6 February 2027.

Mid-Autumn can fall near National Day when the lunar full moon sits in late September or early October. In 2026 Mid-Autumn was 25 September, a Friday, a few days before the 1st. When the two festivals neighbour each other, the leave notice may braid them. The braid is scheduling. It does not turn the moon cake night into the founding anniversary, and it does not turn 1 October into a full-moon feast.

Travel peaks because the week is long, not because the date is movable. Trains fill around the published block. That crowding is a logistics fact, not a second definition of PRC National Day. If you needed the meaning, it is 1 October 1949 remembered on 1 October. If you needed a desk’s shutter, you needed the notice.
