A leap second, on the rare dates when one is announced, makes that UTC day 86,401 seconds long, or, in the other direction, 86,399. Date labels still move from midnight to midnight as one day. Across a time-zone boundary the next local date may already have started for someone else. If the meeting has to land on the same instant, name the zone.

Write the start date and, if you need it, the start time and zone. Decide whether “one day later” means the next date or 24 elapsed hours. Check whether a clock change sits between the two local midnights.

Name the end date in full so the weekday can be confirmed. For medicine labeled one a day, the clock time can matter more than the date line. For a project plan labeled day one through day ten, the dates matter more than the exact second count. Match the tool to the sentence: a timer for elapsed seconds, a calendar for named dates.
