How it works

A week is seven named days in a fixed order. “This week” is the block that contains today. “Next week” is the block after that block ends. The trap is that people do not agree when a week ends. Many offices and the ISO week start Monday and end Sunday. Many household and retail calendars in the United States start Sunday and end Saturday. Both are seven days. They do not start on the same morning.

If today is Wednesday, “next week” is not seven days from now. Seven days from now is next Wednesday, which is a week away, not the whole of next week. Next week is a region of dates. A week away is one date. Mixing them is how a meeting lands on the wrong Monday.

Name the dates. If your week starts Monday, and this Monday was 31 August 2026, then this week runs through Sunday 6 September 2026, and next week is Monday 7 September through Sunday 13 September 2026. If your week starts Sunday, the cuts fall on different mornings. Write the first date and the last date. The phrase can then retire.

Crossing a month end does not pause the week. Next week in late September still walks into October when the numbered days run out. Crossing a year end is the same walk: late December next-week dates can sit in January. The weekday order never rearranges to make the month look tidy.

ShopRite circular next week

A ShopRite circular is a weekly ad, not a second calendar. Shoppers ask for the shoprite circular next week when they want the flyer that will be valid after the current ad expires. Grocery weeks often run Sunday through Saturday. Some ShopRite locations start the ad on Friday instead. The circular in your store’s app or site is the one that applies to that address.

The next-week flyer can appear as a preview before the current week ends. Seeing it on Thursday does not make Thursday part of next week. It makes Thursday a day when you can read next week’s prices. The valid dates printed on the circular are the dates that matter at the till. If the heading says a Sunday-to-Saturday span, those are the seven mornings of that ad, not “whenever I next go.”

Say whether your week starts Sunday or Monday. Write next week as a first date and a last date. Treat “a week from today” as one date, not as next week. Read a ShopRite circular’s printed valid dates, which can start Sunday or Friday by location.

Holiday weeks still contain seven days. A Thursday public holiday inside next week does not delete Friday. It may change store hours on that Thursday. The circular can list holiday hours or a shorter sale window. That is a store overlay on the week, not a week with six days.

Naming the seven days

If you need someone else to show up, do not say “next week” in a message you will not see again. Say “next week, Tuesday 8 September” or whatever the date is. If you do not yet know the Tuesday’s number, you are not ready to send the message. Look at the month grid, then send.

Workweeks and school weeks can ignore Saturday and Sunday without renaming them. “See you next week” on a Friday in an office often means next Monday, which is the next working morning, not the whole seven-day block. That slang is useful only when both people share it. A grocery circular does not share it. A family chat might not share it either.

Next week starts when this week ends. If you cannot name the first morning, you do not yet have a week; you have a wish. From Thursday 3 September 2026, the next seven dates are 4 through 10 September. That span is “the next seven days.” It is not automatically next week. Next week, on a Monday-start grid, begins 7 September. Keep those two phrases apart and the calendar stays quiet.
