This Thursday is ordinary civil time. It is not National Dessert Day. That food date sits on 14 October every year. A mixed “what national day is it today” list may print several bakery nicknames on a September morning. A dessert on 14 October is an October dessert. Saving the coupon for a July heatwave and calling it the holiday misses the month on purpose.

What a shop may do that Wednesday

Bakeries, diners, and chains sometimes post a free sweet, a cheaper slice, or an app extra on 14 October. They change the offer from year to year. A shop that gave one away last autumn may sell at full price this autumn. Read that shop’s notice for that Wednesday. A line in the afternoon is a line, not a national statistic. Evening still counts as the day; it may not count as a full tray.

Home baking does not need a proclamation. If 14 October is a workday, the workday still exists. You can bake after hours, buy a slice at lunch, or skip sugar and keep the date as a caption. None of those choices is more correct. The federal calendar will not referee a pudding.
