Mothers day images

Mother’s Day images are pictures for the U.S. holiday on the second Sunday in May: cards, photographs, carnations. The picture does not move the date. In 2026 that Sunday was 10 May.

How it works

An image for the day is a still thing you can print, send, or hold up to a camera. A portrait of the person you are thanking beats a generic stock garden. A white carnation is the flower Anna Jarvis used at early services; a photograph of a carnation is a photograph of a flower, not the service. Choose the object that will actually reach her: a print in an envelope, a photo on a phone, a drawing on the table. A folder of unused downloads is not a greeting.

The U.S. date is the second Sunday in May, set as a national holiday in 1914 after Jarvis’s campaign. The first formal church service she is tied to was 10 May 1908 in Grafton, West Virginia. Jarvis wanted the apostrophe before the s: Mother’s Day, one mother at a time. Search boxes drop the apostrophe. The Sunday stays the Sunday. Mexico keeps a fixed 10 May, which sometimes coincides with that Sunday and sometimes does not. In 2026 both landed on 10 May. That coincidence is not a law that they must always match.

United Kingdom Mothering Sunday is the fourth Sunday of Lent, a different calendar. An image tagged for May will be late for that British Sunday in years when Lent falls in March. Caption the file with the date you mean.

Name the date: second Sunday in May in the United States; 10 May 2026. Pick one real picture, not a pack you will never open. If you use a carnation, know it is a flower with a history on this day, not a required watermark.

Send it on the Sunday, or on the Saturday if the morning will be busy. The file’s timestamp is not the holiday.

What the picture is doing

A card image is a surface for a sentence. A family photograph is evidence you were in the same room once. A child’s drawing is the drawing. None of these is a legal document. None of them substitutes for a visit if a visit was possible and wanted. Jarvis later fought the commercial flood of cards. You can still send one without joining a debate from the 1920s. You can also skip the marketplace and print a single photo at home.

Stock images of tulips in snow are not a report on May weather. Northern May is late spring. Southern Hemisphere May is autumn. If the person you are sending to is in Melbourne, a maple-leaf overlay is the wrong hemisphere as well as the wrong holiday month for a U.S. May Sunday. Match the climate you actually share, or ignore climate and send the face.

A thousand downloaded bouquets are not one photograph she can hold. Send the face, not the folder.

Filing the images after Sunday

Keep the pictures with the year’s family files, not in a “holiday art” dump mixed with Halloween. Next year’s second Sunday in May will be a different calendar date. In 2027 it is 9 May. Reusing last year’s graphic is fine. Reusing last year’s date in the caption is not. If the image includes text, read the year before you tap send.

Do not confuse this Sunday with National Sisters Day in August or with a birthday. A mother who is also a sister may get both, on different squares. The May image is for the May Sunday. Put the August file in August.
