Months
A Gregorian year has 12 months. Three months make a quarter of that year; six months make half. A month is not a fixed number of weeks.

How many months? Twelve in the civil year used on ordinary calendars: January through December. That count is the structure of the year, not a style choice. Other calendars exist, but if you are reading a civil date in common international use, the year is built from those twelve names.
Months are not equal lengths. February has 28 days, or 29 in a leap year. April, June, September, and November have 30. The others have 31. Because of that, “a month from today” is not always the same number of days as the last month you lived through. Date math that adds one month follows a calendar rule, not a constant of 30.
How many weeks in a month is the question that does not have one integer. Four weeks are 28 days, so they fit inside every month and leave a remainder of 0 to 3 days (or 1 extra in a leap February still lands on 29, which is 4 weeks plus 1 day). Saying “four weeks” for a month is a rounding, not a conversion.
3 months and 12 months
Three months is a quarter of a 12-month year if you mean calendar quarters: January–March, April–June, July–September, October–December. Those blocks are how many businesses and schools slice a year. Three months starting from an arbitrary date — 15 March to 15 June, for example — is still three month-names later, but it is not the same as a named quarter unless it lines up with those bounds.
Twelve months is a year of month names. It is also the usual span of a lease, a subscription, or an age in “months” turning into “one year.” If a child is 12 months old, that is one year in month counting. If a contract is 12 months, read whether it ends on the same date next year or after a set number of days. Those two endings can differ by a day around February.
1 month: one step of the month name, length 28–31 days. 3 months: a quarter if aligned with the year; otherwise three names later. 6 months: half a year of names; day count depends on which half. 12 months: the full civil year of names.
Now 6 months
“Now 6 months” is how people mark a midpoint: six months since a start date, six months until a due date, six months of age. The honest conversion to days is “it depends which months.” Half of a 365-day year is 182 days with a leftover half day; half of a 366-day year is 183. Summing the actual months in the span is better than grabbing 180 and hoping.
How many months in a week is backwards: a week is 7 days, which is not a month. How many weeks in months, asked the other way, still needs the month. Use days when the answer has to be exact. Use month names when the answer is a civil step: “in three months” meaning the same date three names later, or the last day of the target month if that date does not exist (31 January plus one month is not 31 February).
A month is a name on a calendar, not a frozen pile of thirty days. Count names for civil steps; count days when the remainder matters.
