The cocktail square is 22 February. Today is 3 September. They are not the same month. The answer is no, even if a bar already has salt on the counter and a lime in the well. A drink served on a Thursday in early autumn is a drink. It is not the February date.

The label is unofficial. It does not appear on the U.S. federal holiday list. Banks run. Mail runs. Schools that are in session stay in session. A restaurant may print a special; last February’s price is not a promise for this September, and it is not a promise for next February until that shop posts it.

When margarita day is the scheduling question under another wording. The month is February. The day of the month is the 22nd. The weekday changes. In 2026 the 22nd was a Sunday, already spent. In 2027 it is a Monday. There is no “observed Friday” rule, because there is no statute to observe.

When margarita day sits on the calendar

February 22 is a winter date in the northern meteorological calendar. Meteorological winter is December, January, and February. A patio script from July does not transfer. If you wanted the drink outdoors, you are negotiating with late-winter weather, not with a national picnic day. In the Southern Hemisphere, 22 February is late summer. The cocktail does not change hemispheres. The coat does.

The classic drink is tequila, orange liqueur, and lime. Who first mixed it is disputed; stories cluster in the 1930s and 1940s and do not agree on a single bartender. Promotion is not a law.

National Tequila Day is listed on 24 July, another unofficial U.S. food-and-drink date. It is not a second name for 22 February. A margarita uses tequila; that does not merge the two squares into one “agave weekend.” July 24, 2026 was a Friday, already behind you. July 24, 2027 is a Saturday. Neither date is a public holiday.

Cinco de Mayo is 5 May, a Mexican commemoration of the 1862 Battle of Puebla, widely marked in the United States as a party date. It is not National Margarita Day. Independence Day in Mexico is 16 September, which sits later this month; that is a national holiday in Mexico and is still not the February cocktail square. If a chalkboard scrawls “margarita day” on 16 September, that is a sale. The custom date remains 22 February.

You can mix the drink on any evening you can stay safe to drink it. The unofficial calendar will not grade you. It also will not close the building. If you needed a day off, look at a real holiday list, not at a cocktail hashtag.
