The following Western Easter Sunday lands on 28 March 2027. From this Thursday that Sunday is 206 days away. Orthodox Easter 2027 is later still, Sunday 2 May 2027. How long until Christmas Day from the same Thursday is 113 days: 25 December 2026 is a Friday. How long till Christmas Day is the same count with till instead of until. Easter and Christmas are feasts. The long day of the year is light.

People bundle Easter into this search because both phrases sound like “a special day in the year.” They are not interchangeable. Easter is a movable Sunday after the spring ecclesiastical moon. Christmas is a fixed 25 December. The long day is a solstice. What day of the year is it, if that is the other question in the bundle, is a serial number: 3 September 2026 is day 246 of 365. Easter 2026 was day 95. Christmas 2026 will be day 359. The June solstice in 2026 was day 172 (21 June).

If you still need a spring table, keep Good Friday with Easter. Good Friday 2027 is 26 March. Easter Monday is the weekday after Easter Sunday in places that keep it; it is not a U.S. federal holiday. None of those spring dates is the long day of the year in the north. Northern long light peaks in June, not in March or April.

Daylight, not overtime

A long day at work is hours on a clock. The long day of the year is hours of sun. Mixing them is how a solstice becomes a complaint about a shift. North of the equator the peak sits at the June solstice. In 2026 that was 21 June for most time zones, already past in September. In 2027 it falls on 21 June again. South of the equator the long day sits at the December solstice; in 2026 that is Monday 21 December. After a northern June peak, each sunset comes a little earlier. That is why September evenings already feel shorter. The heat of summer can linger anyway. Light and temperature are different clocks.

Today, 3 September 2026: day 246 of 365. Polar day is the extreme of the same geometry: above the Arctic Circle the sun can stay up for more than one calendar date around the June solstice. That is still not Easter, and it is still not a reason to call every late shift “the long day of the year.” If you need minutes of daylight, use sunrise and sunset for your coordinates. This page will not invent a span for a city it is not measuring.

Waiting for Christmas while the light drops

From early September the northern days are shortening toward the December solstice, then they lengthen again through Christmas. Christmas 2026 is four days after the northern shortest day. The feast is not the bottom of the light; it sits just after it. That is a calendar fact, not a sermon. If you are counting how long until Christmas day, use 113 days from 3 September 2026, not the solstice, and not Easter.

Easter 2027 will come when northern light is growing, not when it peaks. March 28 is early spring in the north, autumn in the south. The long day of the year will still be months away for northern towns and already past for southern towns that had their long day in December 2026. Keep the feast on its Sunday. Keep the solstice on its instant. Keep Christmas on 25 December. The year is large enough for all three if you do not stack them on one square.
