June calendar
June has 30 days and is the sixth month. In 2026 it starts on Monday the 1st and ends on Tuesday the 30th. Northern summer opens here; southern winter does.
How it works
A June calendar is a 30-day table. It is one day shorter than May and July on either side. That missing 31st is real: there is no June 31. Plans that say “the 31st of June” are already broken. Write the 30th, or move the plan into July.
In 2026 the month begins on Monday, which makes a Monday-start grid look clean: five rows, June 1 in the first cell, June 30 on the last Tuesday. A Sunday-start grid leaves Sunday blank on the first row and still ends on the 30th. Same dates. Different empty cells.
June keeps 30 days in leap years and in common years. The leap day, when it exists, is in February. Do not “make up” a June 31 because the year feels long. The year is long in February or not at all.
Fixed dates and Sunday rules in June
June mixes numbered holidays with Sunday-count holidays. They do not move the same way. Juneteenth is June 19 every year. In 2026 that date is a Friday. It is a United States federal holiday. Father’s Day in the United States is the third Sunday of June. In 2026 the Sundays are the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th, so Father’s Day is June 21.
June 1, 2026 is a Monday, so the first workweek of the month is a full five-day week from the 1st through the 5th. Juneteenth stays on the 19th even when the 19th is a weekend; the observed federal day off can move when the 19th is a Saturday or Sunday, following the usual federal observation rules. In 2026 the 19th is a Friday, so the date and the weekday off coincide. Father’s Day never sits on a fixed number. It rides the third Sunday and will be a different date next year.
The northern summer solstice falls in late June, usually on the 20th or the 21st depending on the year. It is an astronomical instant, not a bank holiday. On a June calendar it is a mark you may add. It does not close a post office.
Thirty days that open a season
In the Northern Hemisphere June is the first meteorological summer month. In the Southern Hemisphere it is the first meteorological winter month. The 30 boxes serve both. A school that ends in June and a school that is mid-year in June are both reading the same numbers.
Because 2026’s June starts on Monday, week-numbering is tidy if your weeks start Monday: June 1–7 is a complete week only if you start on Monday and accept that Sunday the 7th closes it. If your weeks start Sunday, June’s first week is the short tail of May plus June 1–6. Say which week rule you are using before you say “the second week of June.” Under a Sunday start, the second week of June 2026 is the 7th–13th. Under a Monday start, it is the 8th–14th. One day of drift in the label, same dates on the wall.
June will not grow a 31st no matter how much you still have to finish in it; the 30th is the last box, and July is a different month on purpose.
