July calendar
A July calendar is the grid for the seventh month of the year. July has 31 days. In the northern hemisphere it falls in summer; in the southern hemisphere it falls in winter. The weekday of July 1 changes from year to year.
How it works
July is month 7. It follows June, which has 30 days, and precedes August, which has 31. The July grid is a standard month layout: dates in rows of seven, with a Sunday-start or Monday-start week depending on the calendar you use. Nothing about July’s length changes in a leap year. Leap years only add February 29, which can shift the weekday that July begins on, but they do not add a 32nd of July.
Because July has 31 days, it always includes four full weeks plus extra days. Those extra days are what move weekends around the month. A July that starts on a Wednesday, for example, places the 1st midweek and the 31st on a Friday. A July that starts on a Saturday piles weekend dates at both ends. The only way to know this year’s shape is to look at this year’s July, not last year’s.
The month is named for Julius Caesar in the Roman calendar that the Gregorian calendar inherited. The name does not change the number of days. You still get 31 numbered squares.
Using a July grid for plans
Mid-year planning is the practical use. A July calendar shows what is left of the first half’s leftovers and what already belongs to the second half. If you work in quarters, July opens the third quarter of the calendar year. If you work in school years, July may be a break month in one country and a term month in another. The squares do not encode that. You do.
Mark the 1st and the 31st so the month’s span is visible. Place recurring weekly events and see how many times they fit in 31 days. Check national dates that land in July in your country, such as July 4 in the United States, on the weekday they actually fall this year.
Count workdays if a project is due at the end of the month, instead of assuming every July has the same number of weekdays. Opposite seasons matter for travel and outdoor work. July heat in the north is not a fact about the south. A calendar imported from another hemisphere still has the correct dates and the wrong weather story. Keep the dates; drop the season labels that do not apply.
31 days and the weekday shift
People who copy a June layout into July lose a day, because June has 30. People who copy August into July can get lucky on length, because August also has 31, and still be wrong on weekdays. The safe method is a fresh July grid for the year you mean.
If you need the same weekday next year, you cannot keep the same date without checking. July 15 on a Tuesday this year is not July 15 on a Tuesday next year. Recurring “third Friday in July” is a weekday rule, not a date rule. Recurring “July 15” is a date rule, not a weekday rule. Mix them and the meeting splits.
July has thirty-one days and no bonus hour. Heat does not stretch the calendar. When a plan crosses from June 30 into July, the month number changes and the day count resets to 1. When it crosses from July 31 into August, the same reset happens. The calendar exists so those resets are visible on paper instead of in a surprise.
