Time until Christmas is a duration. It is not a clock reading such as 15:00. You can report the duration in days, in weeks and leftover days, or in hours and minutes if you name a start instant. The target instant is the beginning of 25 December in the place you mean, unless you named a service time later that morning. Most people who type the question want the day count. Give them that first, then convert if they asked for a finer unit.

That conversion holds only if both ends are the same kind of midnight. Write the start hour or do not pretend the hour figure is a stopwatch.

Minutes and seconds follow the same rule: 60 minutes in an hour, 60 seconds in a minute. Multiplying 2,712 hours by 60 gives minutes for that midnight-to-midnight stack. The product is arithmetic on the day count, not a live ticker unless a clock is actually running.

Whose clock, whose midnight

25 December begins at different moments around the world. Time until Christmas in Tokyo is not the same remaining duration as time until Christmas in Los Angeles if you are measuring to each city’s local midnight. If the household you care about is in one city, use that city’s zone. If you are boarding a plane, decide whether you mean Christmas where you take off or Christmas where you land. The date on each side is still 25 December. The remaining time is not a single global number.

After the 25th: measure to 25 December of the next year; in 2027 that date is a Saturday. Daylight time does not move 25 December. A zone that is on daylight time in September and standard time in December has already changed offset during the wait. That change affects clock readings and the length of one local night in autumn. It does not add a calendar day to the 25th. If you convert remaining time by multiplying days by 24, you are using civil days, not a log of every offset change. Duration is not the season

If you needed time until Christmas Eve instead, stop one day earlier: 24 December. From 3 September 2026 that is 112 days. Eve evening is still the 24th. Morning of the feast is the 25th. Mixing those two instants is how a duration comes out a day long or a day short without anyone changing the calendar.
