The word is a name for a span of ten years. English dropped the plural in the search line, but the measure did not shrink. Ten Januaries, ten Februaries, ten full trips around the month grid: that is the length. A century is ten of those spans. A year is one tenth of one decade.

How many year in a decade is not a trick about leap days. Leap days live inside years; they do not add an eleventh year. A decade that contains two 29ths of February is still ten years long. It is only a few days longer than a decade that contains one leap day. The year count stays 10.

The day count inside a decade is not a single famous number, because leap days fall unevenly. If you need days, count them from a start date to an end date ten years later. Do not multiply 365 by 10 and treat the product as a law. That product misses every leap day in the window. Adding “about two or three” is a sketch, not a certificate. The honest day total is a date subtraction.

A decade will not stretch to eleven years to make a round day-count. The extra days hide in February, not in a bonus year. Age works the same way. A person who is a decade old has completed ten years of life. They are not 120 months old as a separate fact; that is the same span in another unit. They are not a century old. They are ten.
