How many mondays until christmas day

how many mondays until christmas day

The next Monday is September 7, 2026. Keep every Monday through December 21 and you have 16 Mondays. There is no Monday on December 25, 2026, so an inclusive count through the holiday and a count of Mondays that still lie ahead of it are the same number this year.

That match is a property of 2026, not a rule for every Christmas. When December 25 is a Monday, the inclusive count and the “before the day” count differ by one. Always name the year before you name the total.

What day is Monday on the calendar: it is the weekday after Sunday and before Tuesday. In ISO 8601 it is day 1 of the week. On many US grids it is the second column because Sunday occupies the first. The name does not change with the column.

Next Monday from September 3, 2026: September 7. Last Monday before Christmas 2026: December 21. Mondays in that span: 16. Christmas Day 2026: Friday, not Monday.

Is Monday a holiday

Monday is not a holiday by being Monday. A Monday holiday is a public or observed holiday that falls on Monday, or that a jurisdiction moves to Monday so the absence sits next to the weekend. Whether a given Monday is a holiday depends on the country, the year, and the employer’s calendar.

In the United States, several federal holidays are observed on Monday in the years when the statute says so, including the Monday observances of Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Columbus Day. Christmas Day is fixed on December 25. In 2026 that date is Friday, so Christmas is not a Monday holiday that year.

If December 25 falls on a Saturday or Sunday, some workplaces observe the nearest Friday or Monday instead. That observed day is a work calendar choice. It does not move Christmas Day off December 25.

Monday is a weekday. A Monday holiday is a weekday that a calendar of work has agreed to skip.

Monday holiday weekends near the end of the year

A Monday holiday weekend is Saturday, Sunday, and Monday off, or Friday through Monday if Friday is also closed. Christmas 2026 does not create that pattern by itself, because the holiday sits on Friday. The weekend that follows is Saturday December 26 and Sunday December 27, which are ordinary weekend days unless a workplace adds extra leave.

Look up December 25 in the year you care about and read its weekday. Check whether your workplace observes Christmas on that date or on a nearby weekday. Count Mondays to the date you actually must meet, which may be the observed day rather than the 25th.

Do not treat “Monday” as code for “day off.” If you are counting Mondays until a school term, a paycheck, or a visit, pin the count to that event’s date. Borrowing the Christmas Monday total for a different deadline only works when the deadline is also December 25, 2026, which it rarely is.
