If you need days employed, count from the hire date with the same leap-year care, then decide whether you want calendar days or scheduled workdays. Those two answers diverge every Saturday. If you need age in years, the civil birthday rule is enough for most offices. Days-alive is the finer grain. It is useful for a newborn’s chart, a curiosity, or a countdown. It is a poor substitute for “I am forty” on a form that asked for years.

A year you lived through did not contain 365 days if February gave you a 29th. The extra day still happened, even if you spent it at work. Do not invent a global average and call it yours. The method is the answer; the integer is personal.
