Hobonichi weeks

Hobonichi Weeks is a slim weekly planner in the Japanese Hobonichi Techo line: the week on the left page, a graph memo page on the right, in a long-wallet size.

Time By Online Alarm Clock

How it works

You open a two-page spread and see one week at a time. The left page is a horizontal weekly calendar. The right page is graph paper for notes, lists, or a hand-drawn timetable. A mini month in the corner marks which week you are on. The book is dated: it is printed for a named year, with a little overlap into the December before and the January after, so the first and last spreads are not chopped mid-week.

The English Weeks lines the days Monday through Sunday. That is a Monday-start week, the same order ISO 8601 uses for week numbers. The Japanese edition can carry extra seasonal notes that the English edition omits; the weekly skeleton is still a week-plus-memo spread. You do not get a full page per day. If you need a page per day, that is a different Techo, not Weeks.

Paper is thin on purpose so the book stays light. It will not sit perfectly flat without a hand or a clip. That is a design trade for the wallet shape, not a defect you fix by bending the spine. Write with a dry page under your palm if you care about ghosting. The planner is a week tool. It will not become a daily diary because you wanted more boxes.

Monday on the left, notes on the right

Because the printed week starts Monday, a Sunday task belongs at the bottom of the left column, not in a mental “first day” you brought from a U.S. wall calendar. If you plan weekends as a block, draw that block yourself on the memo page. The printed grid will not merge Saturday and Sunday unless you do.

Week numbers on the daily lines follow the rule that week 1 is the first week in January that contains a Thursday. That matches the ISO week. A week that is “week 1” in this book can still look like December on a Sunday-start wall calendar. Trust the spread you are writing on, not the fridge magnet.

Left: seven days, Monday to Sunday. Right: graph memo for that same week. Size: slim, about a long wallet, not A6 and not A5. Weeks Mega: the same weekly layout with a thicker memo section at the back.

Covers: many colours and patterns; the insides stay a weekly book. A weekly spread that starts on Monday will not file the Sunday you meant to write last week. That Sunday already had a box.

Weeks among the other Techo books

Hobonichi’s daily books (Original in A6, Cousin in A5, and related hard-cover HON editions) give each date its own page. Weeks exists for people who think in weeks, not in dawn-to-dawn essays. You can carry Weeks next to a daily book. You should not expect Weeks to absorb a full daily practice. When the memo page is full, you are out of room for that week, not for the year.

Buy the year you will write in. A 2026 Weeks is for 2026 dates. Starting in late December of the previous year is normal because of the overlap spreads. Starting in June is still possible; the early weeks will be blank or used as extra memo. The book will not restart the year for you in April unless you bought an edition printed that way. Most English Weeks books are January-start.

Use it as a calendar you can pocket: appointments on the left, running notes on the right. Use a separate monthly view when you need three months at a glance — Weeks includes monthly calendars, but they are not the same as a wall month. The point of this format is the week, repeated until the year runs out.
