How it works

Each season brings a house of contestants who want to be the next Hallmark leading man. Jonathan Bennett hosts. Melissa Peterman is the lead judge. Episodes split the work in two. A Festive Face Off tests holiday spirit: ugly sweaters, tangled lights, trees, the domestic jokes the network already sells in its films. A Star Quality round tests acting. Contestants learn a short scene, often with a guest who already stars in those movies, and perform it. Judges send someone home. The last man standing is named Mr. Christmas and is promised a part in a Hallmark holiday film.

Season 1 premiered on Hallmark+ on 31 October 2024 and ran to 12 December 2024. Ten men entered. Ezra Moreland won. His prize was a lead in Happy Howlidays. Season 2 premiered on 27 October 2025. Craig Geoghan won that season. The series is TV-G. It is not a dating show and not a film titled Finding Mr. Christmas. The “finding” is a casting search with cocoa, cameras, and notes on whether someone can hit a mark and look glad about a wreath.

What the contest is scoring

Hallmark’s Christmas movies run on a small set of moves: a meet-cute, a town square, a deadline before the 25th, a person who has forgotten how to keep the day. Finding Mr. Christmas is an audition for that tone. The Face Off rewards cheer you can photograph. The acting round rewards a scene you can remember after one rehearsal. Guest coaches from the same roster — names the audience already knows from those films — come in to raise the difficulty: ice, a photoshoot, a kiss in a later episode. None of that is a mystery plot. It is a job interview with tinsel.

Host: Jonathan Bennett, who also helped create the series. Lead judge: Melissa Peterman. Round one: a festive task that is not the acting test. Round two: a scripted scene, sometimes with a Hallmark regular as the partner.

Prize: the title, and a role in a Hallmark Christmas movie. If you arrived looking for Finding Father Christmas, that is a different Hallmark title: a 2016 film from a Robin Jones Gunn book, about a woman tracing her father. It shares a network mood and a “Finding … Christmas” shape. It does not share this cast, this format, or this prize. Type the full name. Mr is the reality show. Father is the movie.

Mr. Christmas is a job title with a wreath on it. The winner still has to remember the lines when the movie crew arrives.

How to watch without mixing titles

The episodes live on Hallmark+ first. Later windows and linear slots follow the network’s own calendar; check that listing for the night you mean. Season 1 is eight episodes. Season 2 added another run of contestants and another winner. A third season is not something to assume from the title alone. If the page you opened is a trailer for Happy Howlidays, you are looking at the prize film from season 1, not at the competition that chose Ezra Moreland.

Watch it as a holiday series if you like the movies and want to see the factory floor. Watch it as a casting tape if you care who can play “man who owns the tree lot.” Do not watch it as a documentary about how Christmas was invented. The invention, such as it is, is a leading-man pipeline with a seasonal deadline.
