How it works

The query is the English title with of dropped. Viewers want the film, the poster, or that minute. “Days” here means a stretch of living, not a feast on the civic list. No year reprints a Days Being Wild square. Under the story the week is still the ordinary seven names, and the plot does not invent an eighth.

The film is a Hong Kong drama written and directed by Wong Kar-wai, released on 15 December 1990. It is set mainly in 1960 Hong Kong, with later scenes that leave the city. It is widely treated as the first part of an informal trilogy with In the Mood for Love (2000) and 2046 (2004). It is also Wong’s first feature with cinematographer Christopher Doyle. Those are production facts. They do not move 16 April.

Leslie Cheung, Maggie Cheung, Andy Lau, Carina Lau, Jacky Cheung, and Tony Leung appear. The famous clock talk sits near the start of Yuddy’s time with Su Lizhen. He asks what day it is. She answers with the date: the 16th. He names it as 16 April, one minute before 3 p.m., and says that because of that minute they will remember each other. The minute is a private stamp. The calendar still has to say Saturday.

16 April 1960 was a Saturday. The film does not need that weekday to work as drama. A viewer who wants to place the stamp on a week can: Saturday afternoon, just before three, in 1960, in Hong Kong’s civil date. A viewer in another zone watching a later screening is not on that Saturday. The stamp stays in 1960.

One minute on a Saturday

A calendar date is a civil box. The scene pins a minute inside that box. Standing on 16 April at 14:58 is still the same date; the minute he names is the next one. The weekday of that box in 1960 is Saturday. Saturday in a 1960 Hong Kong week is an ordinary weekend day on a Western-style seven-day grid. The film does not turn it into a festival.

Later, on a train, the date is asked for again. Memory, not the weekday name, is the point. You can watch the film on a Tuesday in 2026 and the stamp is still 16 April 1960. Screening weekdays are the cinema’s problem. They do not rewrite the scene.

A title is not a public holiday

Search results mix the film with other “wild” day phrases. If you needed a party night, a wildlife park’s hours, or a weekday mood caption, you are in the wrong listing. This page is the 1990 film and the dated minute it repeats. Opening hours of a cinema that is showing a restoration are that cinema’s weekday table. They are not 16 April 1960.

Retrospectives print screening dates. Those dates have weekdays of their own. A Thursday 20:50 showing in a festival calendar is a Thursday in that festival year. It is not the Saturday in the dialogue. Keep the two grids: the story’s date, and the night you sit down.

The film remembers one minute. Saturday still has to sit around that minute as an ordinary weekend day. If you are counting “days until” a screening, count civil dates to the showing, not to 16 April 1960. That April does not return. The month-and-day pair can be marked on a later calendar as an anniversary of a scene, if you like that sort of private stamp. The civil Saturday of 1960 does not come back with it.
