What is the date means the civil calendar label where you are standing: the month, the day of the month, and the year. It is not the weekday, and it is not the clock hour. Thursday is a weekday. 3 September 2026 is a date. 14:00 is a time. People ask all three with similar words, so answer with the matching piece.

Date today is that label for the current local day. If your device zone is correct, the date it shows is the one you should write on a form. If you just landed, check the city on the clock first. A phone that is still on yesterday’s zone can show yesterday’s date in the afternoon.

Across the date line, “today” is not global. When it is already the next morning in Auckland, it can still be the previous evening in Honolulu. Do not settle an argument about the date with a screenshot from another zone unless you name the zone.

Day month year with a month name — readable in prose. Month-first numeric — common in the US, risky abroad. Day-first numeric — common in much of Europe, risky in the US.
