Click speed test

How it works

You start a short timer, click as fast as you can with one pointer, and stop when the window ends. The page divides the click count by the duration and shows clicks per second, often abbreviated CPS. That is all the arithmetic. A longer window smooths bursts. A shorter window rewards a brief sprint. Compare runs only when the window is the same length.

The input is a mouse button, a trackpad click, or a tap, depending on the device. The test should count down-presses that the page actually receives. Missed clicks are not a moral failing; they are clicks the browser never saw. Full-screen, a steady surface, and a pointer you already use will tell you more than a new gadget you picked up for the trial.

This is a tool page, not a contest with a hidden judge. There is no official world ranking on a random website, and a screenshot of a number is not a credential. Use it to compare your own runs, to check whether a new mouse feels slower, or to settle a friendly argument with the same device and the same window.

What the score is actually counting

CPS is clicks divided by seconds. Ten clicks in two seconds is the same pace as five clicks in one second. The raw click count without the duration is not a speed. Always read both. If the page also shows a peak burst, that peak is not the same as the average across the whole window. Decide which figure you meant before you quote it.

Buttons bounce. Cheap switches can register a double click when you meant one, or drop a click when you meant two. A test that looks “too high” on one mouse and “too low” on another may be measuring the switch, not your hand. Try the same test with a keyboard key if the page allows it, or with a different mouse, before you train for a number the hardware cannot hold.

Use the same device and the same timed window for every comparison. Rest the heel of the hand; flicking from the air wastes travel. Count only the clicks the page records, not the ones you felt. Ignore a first run spent finding the target. Keep the next ones.

Stop when the window ends. Extra clicks after the bell are not part of the score. Hands fatigue. A fifth run in a row is often slower than the second, even if you “know the trick.” Space the trials. If the goal is to test a mouse, not to grind a personal best, a handful of honest windows beats a sore wrist and a number you cannot repeat tomorrow.

A click speed test is a metronome for your finger. It is not a personality quiz, and it is not a trophy.

Keeping the test honest

Auto-clickers, bind macros, and accessibility repeat keys will inflate the count. If you came here to measure a hand, leave those off. If you came here to check whether software is firing extra clicks, that is a different experiment: run once with the helper and once without, same window, and compare. Do not mix the two aims in one screenshot.

Touchscreens report taps, not mouse clicks. A result from a phone and a result from a desktop mouse are not the same event. Label the device on any note you keep. “CPS on this laptop trackpad, five-second window” is a complete sentence. “My click speed” is not. The tool can only count what reached the page in the seconds you gave it.

If the page jitters or the pointer lags, you are no longer measuring your click rate. You are measuring a busy tab. Close the extra work, retry, and treat the laggy run as void. A fair test is boring on purpose: same button, same duration, same posture, then a number you can read without a story attached.
