Thanksgiving 2026 is Thursday, 26 November, so the day after is Friday the 27th. That Friday is not a federal holiday. The park hours are an event schedule, not a city shutdown. Downtown traffic and parking are the practical limit, not a ticket quota at the gate.

What you walk through in San José

The plaza is about two acres. Community groups decorate trees. Animated and musical displays sit among them, including pieces that go back to the Lima family exhibit. Don Lima began a nativity display at his Willow Glen mortuary in the 1950s. The city later received the displays. After a stop on the old City Hall lawn, the event settled at the plaza in the early 1980s and took the name Christmas in the Park. When the city stepped back around 2011, the nonprofit kept it running.

Open Christmas Day; this is a park event, not a closed civic building. Dress for a Northern California winter evening: cool, sometimes wet, dark by late afternoon. The lights are the point of going after dusk. A summer outfit is the wrong tool. Pets, bags, and photography rules belong on the organizer’s page for that season.

A thousand lights still sit outdoors. Wear a coat. The plaza will not heat itself for you.

Christmas in a park that is not San José

Plenty of towns light a park in December and call the night Christmas in the Park or Christmas at the Park. Those events have their own hours, fees, and end dates. A search without a city will mix San José with a hometown square two thousand miles away. Add the city before you pack the car. A tabletop village, a German-style market, and a drive-through light show are different kinds of night; this page is a walk-through plaza, not a ticketed farm and not a ceramic street on a mantel.

If you only needed the date of Christmas itself, that is still 25 December. The park is a December-long display around that date, not a substitute for it.
