Candle day

How it works

In U.S. retail speech, Candle Day is the annual deep discount on scented jars, especially Bath & Body Works three-wick candles, with Yankee Candle running a similarly named event of its own. The chain prints the hours. The calendar does not. Early years of the Bath & Body Works event sat on or near the first Saturday of December; later years have grown into a Thursday-night-to-Sunday weekend, with members sometimes admitted first. 2025 ran online from the evening of 4 December and in stores 5–7 December. 2026 dates are the company's to announce. Do not copy last year's Thursday onto this year's planner until the current notice exists.

A store door on Candle Day is a sale door. It can open early. It can limit how many jars one ticket may carry. It can sell out a scent by Saturday noon. Online checkout is a different queue, with its own start time, often the night before the floor opens. The phrase “Candle Day” without a brand is two companies and a mall corridor. Name the shop, then read that shop's dated line.

It is not a religious candle feast. It is not Candlemas on 2 February. It is not a power-cut kit. It is not a U.S. federal holiday. If the first weekend of December already holds a school concert or a flight, the sale will not wait, and the concert will not move.

How to use a sale that is not a feast

Treat it as you would any dated retail crush: Wait for this year's notice from the brand you mean. Separate member hours from public hours, and online from the street door. Write the scent names before you join a queue; the aisle will not remember for you.

A gift list with a count beats a basket you cannot carry. Never leave a burning candle in a queue, a car, or a dry tree. The sale does not suspend fire. Yankee Candle Day is a sibling event, not a copy of the Bath & Body Works weekend by law. The two can overlap on a December calendar and still disagree on price, jar size, and which morning the doors unlock. A third candle brand that “also does Candle Day” is running its own promotion. Believe the sticker on that jar. The flame has no holiday. The register does, and only for the weekend the chain printed.

December already had holidays

Christmas Day remains 25 December. Hanukkah's dates walk with the moon. New Year's Eve is 31 December. Candle Day is a shopping slot stuffed into the same month because people already want winter scent and gifts. It does not replace those feasts. A jar bought on Candle Day can sit unopened until a later night. A jar burned on 5 December is already spent, sale or not.

From Thursday 3 September 2026, watch for the December notice rather than setting a repeating alarm on the first Saturday forever. If a year returns to a single Saturday, that Saturday is the day. If a year runs Thursday night through Sunday, the “day” is a weekend with a misleading name. Read the verbs on the banner: starts, ends, members, stores, online. Those verbs are the timetable.

After the weekend, leftover full-price displays are ordinary shop. The next Candle Day is the next year's notice. There is no July Candle Day on this retail calendar, only other sales with other names.
