How it works

BRT here is bus rapid transit: a high-capacity bus line with its own stations, often its own lanes, and a published clock. The weekend question is which clock. Almost every system prints at least two: Monday through Friday, then Saturday and Sunday. Some split Saturday from Sunday. Some copy the Sunday table onto public holidays. None of those overlays is universal. The operator in front of you owns the hours.

Weekday peak is not the Saturday clock

A useful weekend check is a short list you can repeat at any station: First bus Saturday, first bus Sunday — often later than Monday. Last bus Saturday, last bus Sunday — often earlier than Friday. Gap between buses at the hour you will stand there — often wider than the weekday peak.

Whether a public holiday uses the Saturday table, the Sunday table, or a third sheet. Whether a night bus or a replacement tram exists only on weekdays. Some lines run seven days with the same span and only change frequency. Some weekday-only corridors die on Saturday. A “BRT weekend” search for a weekday-only corridor has a short answer: there isn’t one. Look at the map’s footnotes, not at the weekday poster glued in the shelter.

Real-time boards help only if the Saturday service exists. An empty board at 06:10 on Sunday can mean “too early,” “no Sunday service,” or “the feed is down.” The printed weekend table is the thing that can say “not until 07:00.” The empty board cannot.

Holidays copy the weekend, until they don’t

Public holidays often borrow Saturday or Sunday frequencies because offices are closed and the peak crush is gone. That borrowing is a local policy. A holiday Monday is still Monday on the wall. The buses may be on a Sunday sheet. If you ride that Monday with a Friday brain, you will wait at a weekday minute for a bus that is not coming.

Special events go the other way: extra late buses on a Saturday, or a corridor closed for a parade. Those notes sit on the operator’s alert list for that date. Last week’s Saturday is not this week’s Saturday when a street is closed. The weekday grid is still there. The route may not be.

A BRT weekend timetable is not a rumour from Friday’s commute. Friday was a weekday, and the gap between buses was a weekday gap. Plan a weekend ride as a new lookup: line name, Saturday or Sunday, first and last, gap at your hour. Then look once more if the date is a holiday. The three letters on the station sign will not do that lookup for you. They only tell you which kind of bus you are waiting for, on a Saturday or Sunday the wall still has to spell out.
