The title is a film title, not a countdown. If you typed almost christmas because you meant “how close is December 25,” this page is the wrong tool: Christmas Day is still December 25, and the count of days is ordinary calendar subtraction. This page is the movie. Universal Pictures released it in the United States on 11 November 2016 after a premiere on 3 November. Running time is about 111 minutes. The rating is PG-13. Will Packer produced. The story is a family reunion in winter, not a documentary about the feast.

Walter Meyers, played by Danny Glover, is a retired widower. After his wife’s death, he asks his adult children to spend several days together in the family house around Christmas. The comedy and the friction come from that forced closeness: old arguments, new partners, and the gap between the holiday they remember and the holiday they can actually sit through. The film is set in the Christmas season. It is not a church service and not a guide to December 25 hours.

J.B. Smoove as Lonnie, Cheryl’s husband. Nicole Ari Parker as Sonya, Christian’s wife. Omar Epps as Malachi. John Michael Higgins as Brooks. Keri Hilson as Jasmine. Gladys Knight as Dorothy, who runs a shelter in the story.

D.C. Young Fly, Nadej K. Bailey, and Gregory Alan Williams appear in supporting parts. Gabrielle Union is also listed among the executive producers. If a streaming page shows a different “Almost Christmas,” read the year and the director before you press play. Holiday titles repeat. This one is Talbert’s 2016 film.

Five days in one house will test a family faster than five weeks of polite cards. The title already admits the gap.

Watching it in the real December

The film’s Christmas is a plot season, not a live clock. You can watch it in July and the story is still Christmas. You can watch it on December 24 and it still will not move the civil date. If you want the movie as a pre-holiday watch, any night from late November onward matches the setting. If you want the calendar, Christmas Eve is 24 December and Christmas Day is 25 December every year. In 2026 those weekdays are Thursday and Friday.

Where to watch changes by country and by year. A listing from last winter is not a promise this winter. Use the service you already pay for, a library disc, or a legitimate rental. Do not treat a social clip as the full film. The runtime is feature length; a trailer is not a substitute.
