How it works

How it works is a district year laid out as dates, then copied onto school pages as events. Adams 12 publishes a year-at-a-glance calendar: first day, last day, quarter endings, staff workdays, and no-school breaks. Individual schools add picture day, concerts, and athletics on top. The district grid answers “is there school.” The school grid answers “what is happening at this building.” Read both if you need both. The district PDF is marked subject to revision.

The 2026-2027 student year is built in four quarters. Quarter 1 ends 9 October 2026. Quarter 2 ends 17 December 2026. Quarter 3 ends 12 March 2027. Quarter 4 ends on the last student day, 20 May 2027. Staff workdays are no-school days for students. Orientation for 6th and 9th graders is Monday, 10 August 2026, and the calendar notes that this does not apply to K-8 schools. First day for all students, preschool through 12, is the next day, 11 August 2026. Staff last day is 21 May 2027, the weekday after students finish.

Each school’s calendar, which repeats no-school days and adds local events. The parent portal schedule for one student, which is a timetable, not the year grid. A board meeting on the district calendar is not a student no-school day unless it is also marked as one. Filter the live calendar by “Holidays (No Classes)” when you only want closures. Leaving every category on is how a planning meeting at 8:30 a.m. looks like a snow day.

2026-2027 dates on the district calendar

Staff workdays before opening are 3–7 August 2026. After opening, student no-school days on the district list include Labor Day on 7 September 2026, staff workdays on 8 September, 28 September, 2 November, 18 December 2026, 4 January 2027, 16 February, 8 March, and staff workdays on 12 April and 3 May 2027. The April and May staff days carry a note: high schools may pick a different day in that month. If you have a high-school student, that school’s calendar is the one that settles those two.

Breaks on the same list: fall break 12–16 October 2026; Thanksgiving break 23–27 November 2026; winter break 21 December 2026 through 1 January 2027; spring break 22–26 March 2027. Named holidays with no school also include Martin Luther King Jr. Day on 18 January 2027 and President’s Day on 15 February 2027. The February staff workday is the 16th, the weekday after President’s Day, so that weekend is longer than a single Monday off.

These dates come from the district’s 2026-2027 school calendar. They are not a substitute for a closure posted later for weather or an emergency. They are also not a 2025-2026 leftover: that year had different first and last days. When you bookmark a PDF, check the year in the title. The 2026-2027 English file is the one that matches the first-day notice the district published on 28 July 2026.

School calendar versus school events

Online check-in, bus passes, and bell times live next to the calendar, not inside the quarter dates. Check-in is a portal task with its own deadline. Bells are per school. Westview Elementary, for one building, posts 7:50 a.m. to 2:35 p.m. as school hours; that is that school’s day, not a district-wide clock. Do not copy one elementary’s bells onto a high school.

The district calendar tells you which dates are school. Your school’s calendar tells you which of those dates has picture day. If two siblings attend two levels, they share the district no-school list and may not share the April staff day. That is what the high-school asterisk is for. Put the district breaks on the family calendar first, then overlay each school’s extras, then overlay each child’s timetable. Three layers. One argument avoided about whether 12 April is a day off.
