How it works

The festival is built as two separate weekends, not as one eight-day pass with a gap in the middle. Weekend 1 runs first. Weekdays follow. Weekend 2 runs next. You buy access to one weekend or the other, or to both if that is offered as a separate product. A wristband or pass for Weekend 2 does not, by itself, open Weekend 1. The reverse is also true.

Lineups are published per weekend. They often share many names and still are not a promise of identical sets, identical guests, or identical weather. Read the bill for the weekend you hold. Do not treat a clip from Weekend 1 as a schedule for Weekend 2. Times, stages, and day splits are weekend-specific when the organiser prints them that way.

The site is a city park. Gates, bag rules, and daily start times are operations on that site for that day. They can differ from a club show you attended the night before downtown. The weekend you bought is a set of park days. It is not “Austin in October” as a vague season ticket.

Weekend 1 is a different pair of dates

ACL Weekend 1 is the first of the two. People search it when they want the earlier dates, the earlier travel, or the earlier chance at a hotel. People search Weekend 2 when those earlier dates are gone, when they prefer the later pair, or when they are comparing bills. Neither search is a quality ranking. They are calendar slots.

If you can attend only one, pick by dates you can actually travel, then by the bill for that weekend. A cheaper leftover for the wrong weekend is not a bargain. A sold-out Weekend 1 does not convert your Weekend 2 pass backward. Resale, guest lists, and upgrades follow the organiser’s rules for that year. This page cannot invent those rules.

Write the weekend number next to the dates on your calendar. Read the lineup page for that weekend, not a social clip from the other. Plan travel around the weekdays in between if you are staying for both.

Treat Sunday of Weekend 1 as an ending, not as a bridge into Weekend 2. Locals sometimes treat the weekdays between weekends as ordinary workdays with extra traffic. Visitors sometimes treat them as part of the festival. They are not, unless a separate event is listed. The park is not automatically open as a concert between the two runs. Weekend 2 is not a remainder bin. It is a different pair of dates with its own ticket.

Weekdays around the two weekends

Friday of each festival weekend is a festival day if the programme says so; it is still Friday on a work calendar. People with ordinary weekday jobs need leave for those Fridays. People travelling in on Thursday are using weekdays to reach a weekend. Name the weekday when you book. “ACL weekend” on a hotel form is ambiguous if the hotel does not know whether you mean the first Friday or the second.

After Sunday of Weekend 2 the festival is over for that edition. After Sunday of Weekend 1 it is only paused. If you are meeting friends who “did ACL,” ask which weekend. Mixing stories from Weekend 1 into a Weekend 2 plan is how you arrive for a set that already happened seven days earlier.

Weather, mud, and heat are day-level facts. Weekend 2 does not inherit Weekend 1’s sky. Pack for the forecast on the dates you hold. The name of the festival does not carry umbrellas from one Sunday to the next.
