60 days in seasons

Sixty days is eight weeks and four days. It is not a season. Meteorological seasons are three-month blocks; in 2026 northern autumn (September–November) is 91 days. Sixty days sits inside that block, or crosses its edge.

How it works

A season, on a meteorological calendar, is a named three-month group. In the Northern Hemisphere those groups are December–February, March–May, June–August, and September–November. The Southern Hemisphere uses the same months with the opposite season names. Sixty days does not match any of those groups.

Count 60 as a duration first. 60 = 8 × 7 + 4. That is eight weeks plus four leftover days. It is also two 30-day stretches only if you are using 30-day months as a sketch. September has 30 days, October 31, November 30. Two calendar months from 1 September 2026 land on 1 November, which is 61 elapsed days from 1 September, not 60.

From a start date, add 60 midnights. From 1 September 2026, 60 elapsed days land on 31 October 2026. From 3 September 2026, 60 elapsed days land on 2 November 2026. Those are date arithmetic. They are not “the season ended.”

Three-month lengths in 2026

In a common year the meteorological groups are not equal: December–February 2025–26: 31 + 31 + 28 = 90 days. March–May 2026: 31 + 30 + 31 = 92 days. June–August 2026: 31 + 31 + 30 = 92 days. September–November 2026: 30 + 31 + 30 = 91 days.

Sixty days is two-thirds of a 90-day sketch, and less than two-thirds of 91 or 92. It is a round duration people put on a recovery plan, a visa window, or a store display. It is not the definition of spring, summer, autumn, or winter.

Astronomical seasons are a different cut: they run equinox to solstice to equinox. Their lengths are not the meteorological month groups, and they are not 60 days either. If a page says “start of autumn,” ask whether it means 1 September or the September equinox. Those are not the same morning.

Sixty days will not fill the folder

If you mark “60 days in seasons” on a planner, you are marking a duration against a seasonal backdrop, not converting the season into 60. A northern meteorological autumn that begins 1 September 2026 still runs through 30 November. After 60 days of it you are on 31 October, with all of November still in the same season name.

If the 60-day span starts in one season and ends in the next, split the count at the season edge, then add. From 3 September 2026 a 60-day span ends 2 November, still inside September–November. From 15 November 2026 a 60-day span would leave autumn and enter meteorological winter on 1 December; the remaining days after 30 November belong to December–February. Do the split on the calendar. Do not average the season names.

Sixty days is a stick you can lay on a season. It is not a season that you can fold until it fits the stick. Leap day never sits in September–November. It sits in February, so it changes December–February of a leap winter. 2026’s February has 28 days. That fact matters for winter length. It does not change a 60-day count that lives in autumn.
