A week is seven days. Six weeks is 6 × 7 = 42 days. To find the date, take today’s date and move 42 calendar days forward. You can also count six boxes of the same weekday on a calendar. Both routes land on one date. They do not land on a range unless you meant “sometime in the sixth week,” which is a different sentence.

Worked example from Thursday 3 September 2026: six weeks later is Thursday 15 October 2026. That pair is 42 days apart. If your “today” is another date, the method is the same and the landing date is not 15 October. Do not copy the example when the start day has moved.

Clock changes do not steal a calendar date when you are counting weeks. You still arrive on a named date 42 days later. If you meant 42 × 24 elapsed hours on a stopwatch, that is a different job and can disagree with local civil time across a daylight-saving night. For ordinary plans, use the date.

Two, eight, and twelve weeks from today

The same arithmetic scales. Two weeks from today is 14 days, and the weekday again matches today. Eight weeks is 56 days. Twelve weeks is 84 days. The search “2 week from today” is the same request as “2 weeks from today” with a missing letter. There is not a separate two-week calendar.

2 weeks: 14 days. 6 weeks: 42 days. 8 weeks: 56 days. 12 weeks: 84 days. From the same example start of 3 September 2026, two weeks is 17 September 2026, eight weeks is 29 October 2026, and twelve weeks is 26 November 2026. Each of those dates is a Thursday, matching the start. If you need a Monday meeting six weeks out, do not add six weeks to a Thursday and expect a Monday. Shift to the Monday you want, then add six weeks to that Monday.

Six weeks from a Thursday is still a Thursday. The calendar will not quietly turn it into a Friday to help the meeting.

How to count without losing a week

Finger-counting across month ends is where weeks go missing. September has 30 days, so six weeks from early September always crosses into October. Write the start date in full, add 42, and then read the weekday as a check. If the weekday does not match, the day count is wrong.

Write today’s date, including the year. Add 42 days, or count six of the same weekday. Confirm the weekday matches the start. If you needed two, eight, or twelve weeks, swap in 14, 56, or 84 days and repeat the weekday check.

Inclusive counting is the other trap. “Six weeks from today” usually excludes today as a completed week: the landing date is the same weekday six weeks later. “Within six weeks” may include every date up to and including that landing date. If a form or a clinic gave you a window, read their sentence, not only the number 6.

For a deadline at the end of a business day, keep the date from this count and then apply opening hours separately. Six weeks from today is a date. Closing time on that date is a clock question.
