Current time in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is the federal capital, and its clock is the country's clock. Dubai, an hour's drive up the coast, shows exactly the same time, as do Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

Four hours ahead of UTC places the Emirates conveniently between Europe and East Asia. A working morning in Abu Dhabi overlaps with the end of the business day in Singapore and Hong Kong; the afternoon overlaps with the European morning. That middle position is part of why the country works as a hub.

Gulf Standard Time

The offset is UTC+4, constant through the year. The database identifier is Asia/Dubai. No daylight saving is observed anywhere in the country. The same offset is used by Oman. Note that neighbouring Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait sit at UTC+3, one hour behind. The Gulf is not a single clock, and the one-hour step between the Emirates and its western neighbours catches out plenty of travellers making short regional hops.

The working week

The clock is only half the story; the calendar matters just as much. The UAE working week runs Monday to Friday, with a shorter Friday, and the weekend falls on Saturday and Sunday. This aligns the country with international markets, though some private organisations and schools structure their Friday differently.

Knowing the hour in Dubai is easy. Knowing whether anyone is at their desk on a Friday afternoon is the part that takes local knowledge.

The seven emirates

All seven share one time zone: Abu Dhabi — the largest emirate by area and the federal capital. Dubai — the commercial and aviation centre. Sharjah — adjoining Dubai to the north. Ajman and Umm Al Quwain — the two smallest, on the Gulf coast.

Ras Al Khaimah — the northernmost emirate. Fujairah — the only emirate on the Gulf of Oman side. Fujairah faces a different sea from the rest of the country, so its sunrise differs slightly, but there has never been a case for a separate zone in a country this compact.

Scheduling with the Emirates

Practical conversions, all stable because the UAE never shifts: Against the UK, the difference is four hours in winter and three during British summer time. Against India, the UAE is one and a half hours behind, all year.

Against Singapore, it is four hours behind. Against the US east coast, an Abu Dhabi afternoon is an early New York morning — the practical window for both sides. Prayer times are published locally and vary through the year with sunrise and sunset; they are worth checking when scheduling meetings tightly, especially around midday. During Ramadan, working hours are shortened by law, which changes the availability window more than any time zone arithmetic does.
