Guatemala City, the capital, sits in the highlands of central Guatemala and keeps the same clock as every other part of the country. Whatever the hour reads in the capital, it reads the same in Quetzaltenango, Cobán and Puerto Barrios. The time zone identifier used by computers and phones is America/Guatemala, and it maps to UTC−6 with no seasonal variation.

One country, one clock

Guatemala is compact enough that a single zone covers it comfortably. From the Mexican border in the west to the Caribbean coast at Puerto Barrios, the whole territory runs on the same offset. Practically, this means:

A few practical notes for anyone who has to book meetings, flights or deliveries: Confirm whether your own country shifts its clocks. If it does, the difference to Guatemala City will be one hour larger or smaller for part of the year.

When writing a calendar invite, choose the zone America/Guatemala rather than a fixed "GMT−6" label, so the software handles conversions correctly for everyone else. For flights, always read the local departure and arrival times as printed. Airlines quote local time at each airport, never a converted one.
