Cheonan is an independent city in Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea, on the Gyeongbu corridor between Seoul and Daejeon. It does not keep a station hour, a provincial hour, or a “between-the-capitals” stamp of its own. Official clocks follow Korea Standard Time, nine hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time, the same numerals Seoul, Daejeon, and Busan already print. If a phone on this platform and a phone in the capital disagree, one of them is set wrong.
Software usually files the national hour as Asia/Seoul. That label is a library name for South Korea. It does not send a Cheonan meeting to the Han, and it does not give Chungcheongnam-do a municipal extra. A form that offers Seoul, Busan, or “Korea” is offering the same UTC+9. South Korea does not currently observe daylight saving, so a summer toggle on a phone is a leftover from somewhere else.
The live clock is the current civil minute. A saved image from yesterday is already history. Convert other countries through UTC+9 or by opening their clock beside this one. Do not convert through a memory of how Cheonan related to Beijing or Los Angeles “last conference.” China stays on UTC+8. North America may still jump. This city stays on UTC+9.
Cheonan sits inland on the peninsula, not on the East Sea and not on the Yellow Sea. That inland seat shapes wind and how soon a ridge hides the disk. It does not shape the legal hour. Offices, schools, broadcasts, and coaches still run on Korea Standard Time. A ride toward Asan or toward the Independence Hall does not buy a new offset. It buys travel time.
Chungcheongnam-do as a whole does not get its own stamp. An independent city and a county town in the same province use the same numerals. Sunrise minutes still differ with longitude and with local hills. Agree on civil time for a meeting. Agree on a place name if first light matters.
Civil time: Korea Standard Time, UTC+9, nationwide. Computer name: Asia/Seoul — a zone file, not a capital-only appointment. Daylight saving: South Korea does not currently use one. Sun and weather: this city’s coordinates, not a Seoul pin and not a generic Chungcheong point.
A domestic trip to Seoul, Daejeon, or Busan does not require a watch change. A call toward Shanghai does: China Standard Time is UTC+8. A call toward Tokyo does not, under present Japanese rules, because Japan also keeps UTC+9. People who treat “East Asia” as one number find the Chinese gap the hard way. Name Cheonan, or name KST, or name UTC+9. “Korea time” is accurate for the hour and still the wrong sunrise if you needed this inland morning rather than a coastal one.
The high-speed line does not change the watch between Seoul and Cheonan. It only spends the minutes you actually ride.
Sunrise and sunset on this page are calculated for Cheonan’s coordinates on the chosen date. They are not a provincial average. Haze, monsoon rain, and the city’s own buildings can hide the disk without touching the printed minute. Astronomical sunrise is still the listed instant. First usable light starts earlier, during twilight.
Because Cheonan is in the mid-latitudes, the swing in day length through the year is real. Winter afternoons shorten. Summer evenings stretch. Those are astronomy, not legislation. Copying a January dawn into a July plan is how people miss the light they wanted, even though the clock never jumped. Do not hang a short December afternoon on a forgotten daylight-saving rule. Korea did not apply one.
The inland year is a temperate monsoon year: a humid summer, a colder winter than a southern harbour, and a rainy spell that can hide noon without reprinting UTC+9. Heat can make a midday outdoor start a poor idea. Cloud can delay the first visible gleam. Indoor schedules still follow Korea Standard Time. Outdoor plans should follow heat, rain, and light together. The weather line is the present condition over Cheonan. It is not a Seoul copy and not a Daejeon copy.
A standing call at 10:00 in Cheonan stays at 10:00 in Cheonan. A counterpart in London or Chicago may still move their clocks twice a year. If the Cheonan slot suddenly feels early, their spring-forward is the usual culprit. Store the event as Asia/Seoul or as UTC+9 so only their display moves. Write the city. A station nickname is not a timezone field.
