What time is it in Indore

Indore is a city in Madhya Pradesh, on the Malwa plateau in central India. It does not run on a state hour. India keeps a single civil offset: five and a half hours ahead of UTC. A stated time in Indore is the same numerals as in Kolkata, Mumbai, or Delhi. The sun is not in the same place in the sky. The wall clock is.

Calendars typically store that offset as Asia/Kolkata even when the city is Indore. The identifier names IST, not a West Bengal-only stamp. If a form offers “India” or “IST,” that is the setting you want. Do not round the half hour to UTC+5 or UTC+6 to make a foreign spreadsheet tidier. The half hour is the law.

Indore sits west of the meridian IST is built on. Daylight therefore arrives later by the wall clock than it does in the east of the country. A 07:00 IST start here can still look like the end of night in winter, while the same 07:00 on the Hooghly is already morning. Print IST on the invitation anyway. If daylight itself is the point of the outing, read Indore’s sunrise on this page.

A plateau city on a national half-hour

Madhya Pradesh does not get a central-Indian exception. Railways, exams, and office hours are written in IST unless a notice says otherwise. A drive toward Bhopal or Ujjain does not require a watch change. It requires travel time. If a phone offers a neighbouring country’s offset after roaming, set it back.

Civil time: IST, UTC+5:30, all year. Computer name: Asia/Kolkata — an IST label, not a hint to use Kolkata’s sunrise. Daylight saving: not observed in India. Sun and weather: use Indore’s coordinates, not a map pin in the middle of the country.

International conversions must carry the date as well as the hour. Late evening here can still be the previous working day in the Americas. Early morning here can already be afternoon farther east. The half-hour offset also surprises people who convert in whole hours and then wonder why they are thirty minutes adrift.

Half past UTC is not a glitch. India’s hour is a half-hour on purpose; Indore does not round it for anyone.

Monsoon light on the Malwa plateau

Sunrise and sunset on this page are calculated for Indore on the selected date. They are not a statewide average for Madhya Pradesh. Haze, dust, and monsoon cloud can hide the disc long after the listed instant. Astronomical sunrise assumes an ideal horizon. A built-up street is not that horizon.

Day length still follows the season: longer around the June solstice, shorter around the December solstice. The plateau is inland, so the sky is a land sky, not a coastal one. Twilight still matters. Usable grey light begins before the listed sunrise, and the plateau does not drop into night the second the sun sets. Photographers and anyone walking unlit roads should treat that fringe as part of the working day.

Indore’s year is a tropical wet-and-dry year. The hot stretch before the monsoon can make midday a poor time to be on the street, even while offices are in full swing on IST. Once the rains arrive, downpours and slower roads matter more than the nominal hour on a timetable. The cooler, drier months are easier for daytime errands. Indoor schedules still follow IST. Outdoor plans should follow heat, rain, and light together.

The weather reading here is present conditions, not a climate essay and not a promise about tomorrow afternoon. A 09:00 start in a dry month and a 09:00 start in peak monsoon are the same civil time and very different mornings. A partner in Berlin or New York may still jump their clocks. Indore will not. When a recurring call drifts, check the other calendar before you rewrite the Indore side.

Questions and answers

What time zone is Indore in?
India Standard Time, UTC+5:30, the same official offset as the rest of India.
Does Madhya Pradesh use a different hour from the coasts?
No. The numerals match nationwide. Sunrise still belongs to each city’s location.
Can I treat IST as UTC+5 for simplicity?
No. The civil offset is five hours thirty minutes. Rounding it makes the meeting wrong.
