What time is it in Cali

Cali — Santiago de Cali — is a city in Valle del Cauca Department, in the Cauca River valley of western Colombia. Official clocks follow Colombia Time, five hours behind UTC. The country does not observe daylight saving. A clock here in the drier months and one here in the rains keep the same relationship to Coordinated Universal Time.

Colombia uses one civil hour from the Caribbean coast to the Amazon. Bogotá, Medellín, Barranquilla, and Cali display the same numbers at the same instant. A drive to Palmira, Buga, or Buenaventura stays inside the same civil day. Buenaventura is on the Pacific; Cali is inland. That is geography and weather, not a zone change. A flight to Bogotá is the same hour and a different altitude. Do not add an hour “because it is the capital.”

A weekly call at 08:00 in Cali stays at 08:00 in Cali. If the other person is in the United States or Europe, their local display may jump. Store the meeting as America/Bogota or UTC−5, not as a frozen pair of local times. The Andes change the weather in a few kilometres. They do not change Colombia Time.

Near-equatorial daylight and valley weather

Write “08:00 Cali (UTC−5)” when the audience is mixed. That survives a phone that snapped to Eastern Daylight Time, a colleague who thinks COT means something else, and a spreadsheet labelled only “Colombia.” For travel inside the country you will not cross a civil-time boundary. You will cross valleys, rain, and sunrise minutes.
