Vancouver is a city in southwestern British Columbia, Canada, on the Pacific coast, not the city of the same name in Washington state. Official clocks follow Pacific Time: eight hours behind UTC in the cooler months, seven hours behind once daylight saving is in force. Computers store that pair as America/Vancouver. Selecting Vancouver on a form is selecting this coastal file. It is not selecting Mountain Time, and it is not selecting the Washington namesake’s civic hall.
Most of British Columbia uses this Pacific stamp. Some interior and eastern parts of the province use Mountain Time instead. Convert by named zone, not by the word “B.C.” A meeting “in British Columbia” that does not name the city can already be an hour off. Calgary is on Mountain Time. Victoria, on Vancouver Island, currently shares this Pacific hour. Sharing an offset is not sharing this harbour’s rain.
The clock on this page already shows the Pacific offset in force today. A remembered “three hours behind Toronto” is only true while both sides are on matching seasonal stamps. Ontario jumps too, on the same North American Sundays in present rules, so that particular gap often holds. A gap to Arizona, to Saskatchewan, or to a country that does not jump will still twitch. Trust two live clocks.
Vancouver springs forward on the second Sunday of March and falls back on the first Sunday of November, in step with the rest of Pacific Time in Canada and with most of the U.S. West Coast. In spring the 02:00 hour is skipped; the wall reads 03:00 next. In autumn, 02:00 becomes 01:00. Overnight ferries, hospital shifts, and early flights need that hour named. Store events as America/Vancouver so the calendar, not a sticky note, carries the jump.
A trip to Seattle currently stays in the same family of hour. A trip to Vancouver, Washington, does too, under present Pacific rules — and still needs the city named, because two places share the word. A trip to Edmonton or to Calgary is Mountain Time. A trip to Yukon follows that territory’s own rules, which are not this harbour’s. Write the city, not the province.
Set devices to America/Vancouver or to Pacific Time with daylight saving allowed to follow the zone file. Do not freeze a UTC−8 label through the summer, and do not freeze UTC−7 through the winter. Write “09:00 Vancouver, B.C. (America/Vancouver)” so the Washington city is not booked by mistake.
Use this coastal pin for sunrise, sunset, and weather, not a Kamloops paste and not a Seattle copy. Rain can hide the North Shore. It cannot hide the spring-forward. Pacific Time still jumps twice a year.
Sunrise and sunset here follow the date and Vancouver’s coordinates. The city sits far enough north for a large swing through the year: short winter afternoons, long June evenings. Late June light here is latitude plus daylight saving, stacked. Keep the astronomy and the legal hour as two columns. The pair printed here already uses the Pacific stamp in force on the chosen date. Do not add a further hour “because it stays light so late.”
Calculated sunrise is the geometric instant against an ideal horizon. From a street under cloud piled against the mountains, or in winter rain, first gleam can come later or not be visible at all. Use the table for the calculated rising. Keep the weather line for cloud against the mountains. Do not paste a Victoria pair onto this page because both print Pacific Time, and do not paste a Los Angeles pair because both can sit on PDT in July. Latitude is not shared just because the offset is.
The south coast of British Columbia has a mild, wet marine year: a rainy cooler season, a drier warmer stretch, and cloud that can sit for days without touching the zone file. The weather block is the present condition over Vancouver. It is not a slogan for the whole province and not a mountain forecast for Whistler. Prefer the named zone on mixed invites. Partners in Europe jump on different Sundays from this coast. If a standing call suddenly feels early, check which side just moved. Store the event as America/Vancouver so only the displays that must move, move.
