Dependencias Federales, Venezuela
Venezuela’s Federal Dependencies observe Venezuela Time, UTC−4, all year. Their islands share the national civil clock, but sunrise and sunset vary among archipelagos and should be checked for the relevant island and date.

Current time in Dependencias Federales, Venezuela
The Dependencias Federales are not a separate time-zone area. The islands use VET, four hours behind UTC, and Venezuela does not currently apply daylight saving time. A correctly configured clock therefore keeps the same UTC offset in every season.
When arranging contact with another country, use the other location’s date as well as its offset. Crossing midnight can place the two parties on different calendar days, while seasonal clock changes abroad may alter the usual time difference. Island time may feel leisurely, but UTC still insists on keeping the paperwork precise.
Island localities and one shared clock
The Federal Dependencies comprise offshore islands and archipelagos administered by Venezuela. They do not form a conventional state with a network of large inland cities. Gran Roque, the main settlement of the Los Roques archipelago, is a practical locality reference, while other islands may have small communities, facilities or no permanent urban settlement.
A locality selector for this territory may therefore contain: Gran Roque as a recognised settlement in Los Roques Named islands or archipelagos rather than conventional cities Nearby coordinate-based entries for places without a town centre
Every valid entry should still show the same UTC−4 civil time. Choosing an individual island improves the relevance of sunrise and sunset calculations; it does not reveal another Venezuelan time zone.
Sunrise across scattered islands
The islands are spread across different positions in the Caribbean, so one solar calculation cannot precisely represent the entire group. An island farther east generally reaches solar events earlier by the clock than an island farther west, although the exact result also depends on latitude and date.
For navigation, photography or an early departure, use coordinates associated with the actual island whenever possible. A value borrowed from Caracas or from a different archipelago may be close enough for a broad impression but is not the island’s own calculated event.
Identify the island or archipelago concerned. Select the closest available locality or coordinate. Verify the local calendar date. Read the result in Venezuela Time, UTC−4. Calculated sunrise assumes an unobstructed standard horizon. Hills, buildings, haze and cloud can affect when an observer first sees direct sunlight without changing the official astronomical listing.
Questions and answers
- What time zone do the Federal Dependencies use?
- They use Venezuela Time, UTC−4.
- Do all the islands show the same official time?
- Yes. Their civil clocks agree, although their local sunrise and sunset times are not identical.
- Why might a page list islands instead of cities?
- Many parts of the Federal Dependencies are small islands without conventional urban centres, so geographic names can be more useful than city names.
