Oregon, United States
Most of Oregon follows Pacific Time, but most of Malheur County in the state’s east uses Mountain Time. The correct current time therefore depends on the precise Oregon location.

Current time in Oregon, United States
Pacific Time covers Portland, the Willamette Valley, the coast, central Oregon, and most other parts of the state. The Mountain Time area is concentrated in most of Malheur County near Idaho. Pacific locations use PST during standard time and PDT during daylight saving time. Oregon’s Mountain Time communities use MST and MDT. Both regions observe seasonal clock changes, preserving a one-hour difference between them.
The arrangement reflects Oregon’s connections across state borders: most communities coordinate naturally with Washington and California, while the Mountain Time portion has close ties to neighboring Idaho. Travelers in eastern Oregon should verify local time before appointments or departures.
Oregon lets you cross forests, mountains, and high desert before asking your watch to make even one serious decision.
Time in Portland, Salem, Eugene, and eastern Oregon
Portland, Oregon’s largest city, is on Pacific Time. Eugene, Salem, Gresham, Hillsboro, Bend, Medford, and the coastal cities also use Pacific Time. Ontario, in Malheur County, follows Mountain Time. Portland uses Pacific Standard Time and Pacific Daylight Time.
Eugene and Salem share Portland’s local time. Bend remains on Pacific Time despite its inland location. Medford and southern Oregon follow the Pacific schedule. Ontario uses Mountain Time and is one hour ahead of Portland.
Because Oregon has two zones, a statewide event should state PT or MT when eastern participants may be involved. County-level descriptions require care as the boundary is more specific than a simple division of the entire county from the rest of Oregon.
Coast, mountains, and Oregon sunrise
Sunrise times vary across Oregon’s broad landscape. Eastern longitude ordinarily brings an earlier solar event, but the Mountain Time boundary adds an hour to displayed clock readings in its region. Latitude, date, and daylight-saving status also influence the listed time.
The Cascade Range and other terrain can delay visible sunlight in valleys. On the coast, the eastern horizon may be blocked by hills even though the western ocean horizon is open. A calculated sunrise cannot account for every ridge, tree, or building around an observer.
Summer and winter produce pronounced differences in day length, especially between northern and southern parts of the state. Clock changes shift the displayed sunrise and sunset times during the year.
Use the exact city or coordinates when preparing for a hike, drive, photograph, or outdoor job. Confirm the time zone first in far eastern Oregon. A Portland sunrise entry is unsuitable for Ontario, and even two Pacific Time cities will not have identical solar schedules.
